Wind tower

Actually, I think the wind towers are just decorative here, as opposed to in Dubai, where in the old buildings they served as a ventilation system by extracting the hot air by conduction, like a fireplace, and producing refreshing breezes.

The exposed beams are a typical feature in Adobe construction (mud and straw). They provided a permanent scaffold for the workers to apply the "annual" refurbishment of the adobe mud straw and dung mix to many mosques in the Islamic world. Here of course it appears to be an architectural design feature.
