All the comforts of home

It's quite nice to have a Starbucks on the DQ, although it does follow local tradition with a separate men's seating section and separate cashiers for men and women. I had been told by several people that an American women got in trouble with the muttawa (religious police) for sitting there with a friend, but am not sure how that could have happened since they're not supposed to be allowed on the DQ. Nobody could explain that little discrepancy.

Very nice front, the modern lettering and this kind of architecture fits each other. I wonder how Starbucks was translated into Arabian:) V

In addition to the social commentary, this is a beautifully composed image. I love the shadow of the palm tree. V

Interesting! It does look like it could be in New Mexico. I guess it's the Moorish influence on Spanish architecture, transmitted to the new world?
Carol Rollins27-Nov-2013 15:34
Now that amazes me. A Starbucks! Excellent.

Except for the sign in arabic, this design motif could have been in new mexico

A bit of America with a twist! At least they don't ban western influences.

Lovely shot with the nice light and the shadow of the palm on the building.
