I have to admit it, I love Hungarian folk music and dancing, which I used to do many years ago in San Francisco. Folk dancing in the States had a very particular and relatively small group of followers, so I couldn't believe it when I arrived in Hungary -- a country where everybody seems to love this kind of music and dance -- I don't think I've been to a festival or event where it isn't featured on the entertainment program. And it's not just kids who do it -- it's everybody, young and old. This is one thing that I will really miss about Hungary when we leave next summer. If I could pick a partner, it would be the lead guy on the left; what a great dancer ;-).
The men are wearing costumes typical cowboys of the Hortobágy region of the Great Plain, and the dance is known as Botos tánc, or stick dance.
Here is a video taken by my husband of the performance. For the continuation, see the next image.
