Collegium Maius (15th century)

Oldest building in the Academy of Kraków (now Jagiellonian University). The great astronomer Copernicus was a student here between 1491-1495. The original Jagiellonian Globe, an armillary sphere with a clockwork mechanism and the oldest preserved globe on which appears the word "America," made in 1510 is on display in the Libraria. The university museum holds a large collection of historic scientific instruments, particularly astronomical devices.
