Nelu, Magyarpalatkai Banda

This was down in the basement, where numerous bands were jamming and loads of people dancing, just like in a real táncház (dance house). I loved this band, which was a bit older than usual; they are the Magyarpalatkai Banda from Transylvania, and they performed at the evening gala the next day.

Pictured is Nelu (Ioan Boldi), bass.

Information on this group can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palatka_Gypsy_Band

This video isn't mine, but it was taken at the Sunday gala, when these guys were playing. It's a bit long, but it really shows Hungarian folk music and how everyday people really get into dancing to it. It starts out slowly and after 16 minutes and a dizzying speed of playing, only a few couples are left on the floor. It's worth watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjNETRdUalI for a sense of Hungary and the Hungarians.

One of my short videos of them: http://vimeo.com/39588609 and another one of crowds dancing to their music http://vimeo.com/39554531 and a legényes, where young men dance solo to show their stuff http://vimeo.com/39543175
