The first church here was consecrated in 1637; the first church known as the Wooden Church was built in 1724, until it was rebuilt in 1937. That church was designed by Bálint Szeghalmi but was torched by an arsonist in 1997. This current structure was constructed in 1999 almost identical to its predecessor. It was made entirely from wood from Transylvania, which has a long tradition of woodcarving, with Transylvanian elements integrated into the design.
We just saw this marvelous church in passing from the road and decided we just had to have a closer look. I'm hoping to go back and try again.
