Former Pasha Gazi Kassim Mosque

The Ottoman Turks ruled Hungary for 150 years, and Pécs was one of their main cities. There are two existing mosques in town; this one, now called the Mosque Church (Dzámi Templom, amazingly close to the Turkish "camii" for mosque), was converted into a church in the early 18th century; the minaret was torn down in 1753 and replaced with a bell tower. The other mosque (a later photograph to be added) retains its minaret. Unfortunately, the church/mosque was closed by the time we arrived. I find it quite interesting that they kept the alem (at the top of the dome) with its crescent in place and merely added a cross.
