The fleeting face of spring in Washington

Capitol Hill

I fell in love with this tree in my neighborhood, but nobody seemed to know what it is. Even a friend had been searching, but to no avail. Desperate, I took a close-up of a blossom to my local hardware store, which also has a nursery, and the clerk said it was a quince, which I said it definitely wasn't. Suddenly, this customer standing next to me said, "You want to know what it is? I have one; it's a peach, some sort of Japanese variety." I searched further online, and sure enough, it's called Crimson Cascade Weeping Peach. I have one on order, but don't have a clue where I'm going to be able to put it!

Nice to see the splashes of color even if they are brief and fleeting.
