Ankara's Old City

I've gotten a bit carried away taking pictures of the old part of Ankara, which encompasses some of the city's oldest and most traditional neighborhoods as well as the ruins of its earlier days, so I've decided to put them all in a separate gallery. I have had to concentrate mainly on buildings since the people up there don't much like to have their picture taken, but I hope to get more creative at taking people pictures as time goes by. I am impressed very much with this gallery. I have grown up in Ankara and know Kale and its surroundings very well. Whenever I come back to my home country for a holiday, I spend some time in Ankara, especially in old town and take hundreds of photographs (hoping sort them out one day and display here). I can see that your pictures here are overwhelmingly better than the ones I took. You reflect old Ankara and people living there in this gallery perfectly well. I couldn't do better at all.. Lovely pictures. I spent 5 weeks in Ankara in Feb-96 at the Sheraton...thinking I'd be there 18 months to 4 years at least. I'm with the USA tax agency, Internal Revenue Service and was to be the on site consultant with the Directorate General of Revenue for a World Bank Public Financial Managment project. The late 1995 election changed all that and the contract was never signed...but still a great and unforgettable experience for a lifetime. The hill side low income housing pix from the Citadel bring back a lot of good memories...as well as the Roman Baths.

Hi, Helen I am now a youthful 51 year old, last year I did a TEFL course for my 50th and this year I am going to teach English in a Primary School in Ankara, my son is 19 and has flown the nest! So I'm off for my own adventure but feel completely green! Apparently it's cold in Ankara I don't know where to begin I will be paid £1000 a month and will have free accomodation, any contacts you have there or advice woiuld be appreciated your pictures have made me want to bring drawing materials to capture some of the texture and light I see on your images cheers Marian
