The Newly Reopened Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum (State Museum) is a Dutch national museum dedicated to arts and history in Amsterdam. It was founded in 1800 and moved to its current building in 1885. The museum was closed for a 10-year renovation and was reopened by the former Queen Beatrix on April 13, 2013. We arrived in Amsterdam less than a week later, so our timing couldn't have been more perfect. It was breathtaking to be able to see so many works by the great Dutch masters in person.
