office furniture

Progress photo of a set of new files and desk surfaces I built for myself. It's been in the works
a long time now, but I've finally gotten back to it in the past few weeks, finishing drawers and
installing them. The drawers still get face pieces and pull hardware. The tops will eventually
support a keyboard tray and a bracket for the cpu. The black pieces laying on the surface are cable
organizers that attach to the back edges of the work surfaces. The little cherry bookcase in the
corner has two adjustable shelves and is made the same height as the cabinets to support the tops.

Materials: Cabinets - American Cherry plywood
Tops - Cherry ply/hardwood edging
Drawer boxes - Baltic Birch
Flooring - Vertical Grain (coffee) Bamboo T&G
Finish: Watco Oil & Minwax Polyurethane Satin.

Wow, that is really amazing that you built that for yourself. I used to do a lot of woodwork in high school, but I could never build anything that big. The drawers were always really hard for me to get right. I do like this desk though, and it looks like it provides you with plenty of work and storage space.http://www.senetics.net

probably far to late in responding
but for me - Birch fronts
I like the contrast of light and dark
I feel that too much cherry may look like one solid block

- now what knobs are you going to have?

Congrats for the good job Dave! Look forward to see the set up and the new projects!

The unofficial poll has been overwhelmingly in favor of the contrasting Birch drawer fronts. So that's what it'll be. I will post another photo when everything is done and set up, and by then (hopefully) I'll also have a new "Woodworking" gallery here somewhere. I suspect a few of my other projects might find interest.

Thanks to All who provided feedback! This will be a much nicer project for me because of you!

I think both options will provide a nice look..but... I'd like to see the "b" choice as well.

Hmmm, i'do go for "B"

There is a poll outstanding on this photo right now:

Since I still have time to modify the original design, which color facing would you think best for the drawers now?

A. Dark Cherry to match the cabinets? or,
B. Baltic Birch to match the drawers?

I'll be curious to see the replies.

Dave.

The cherry wood and birch look great together. Nice clean work, Dave!

Impressive. The only furniture I ever built was a bookcase made from fruit crates lol

Dave, whenever you decide to retire from the main job you could become an international consultant for pbasers who want this set-up! It looks lovely and I am green with envy...

Looking good Dave. Echoing what Ann said, I've drawn up plans and was wondering when you are avilable. Good news is I'll sort my own electrics :)

OK I'm just typing out the list of things I want for my study/computer room.....when can you come round?? ;))
Joking aside - this looks really great, what a talented guy you are!
