kilauea iki

Kilauea Iki crater was created during an eruption in November 1959. It's very difficult to convey
the true scale in an image, but the crater is approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) long, 1/2 mile (0.8 km)
at its widest point, and the floor roughly 350 ft (106 m) below where this shot was taken. The
large cinder mound at the center of the image was created by the primary eruption which ejected
material 1500 ft (460 m) into the air.
