These photos are mainly of the temples around Angkor Wat. There are a couple of pictures of a village where we stopped. The temples are completely awe-inspiring. It is amazing to realize how old they are and how intact most are. In Ta Prohm, the jungle has been left to take over the temple and it produces an eerie feeling atmosphere. Some of the temples were quite crowded, but our guide was very adept at avoiding the other groups. Sunset at Angkor Wat is beautiful as the sunset colors reflect off the temple and the water.
I would gladly go back to Cambodia although it is very sad to see what has happened to the people there. They are just beginning to recover from the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge and the war. Poverty is rampant and the basic necessities that we take for granted aren’t available. There may be one water well for several villages and people have to carry buckets of water long distances every day. There is no electricity and no trash or sewage facilities. But all in all the people were friendly and welcoming. I look forward to the opportunity to go back to this beautiful and historic country. If you have the opportunity to support Cambodia, please do so. These people have been through so much hardship and need our support and help. They are a beautiful people who need our help.
I hope you enjoy the photos and I would love to hear your comments.
