This aurora was photographed in frigid winter temperatures from atop Atigun pass in Alaska's Brooks Range. Atigun is the highest road pass in Alaska at 4,800 feet, and is located about 130 miles north of the Arctic Circle. I tried to position myself so that the peak of the foreground mountain was aligned with the base of the aurora, as though the light was erupting from a frozen volcano.
