Built in 1883 by railroad baron James J. Hill the Stone Arch Bridge is the only bridge of its kind spanning the Mississippi River. Built of native granite and limestone it measures 2,176 feet long by 28 feet wide, and is comprised of 23 arches. A working railroad bridge until 1965 today it serves as a pedestrian and bicycle bridge, and provides some of the most stunning views of the Mississippi River and Saint Anthony Falls.
