Contrary to popular belief the Mall of America is not the largest shopping mall in the world, nor even the largest retail space in the United States. There are larger shopping malls in China and Canada (the West Edmonton Mall), and in the United States Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Illinois and King of Prussia Mall in suburban Philadelphia have more retail space. (There are however plans to approximately double the size of the Mall of America.) The Mall of America is, however, the most visited shopping mall in the world with more than 40 million visitors annually--more than Disney World and Disney Land combined. The Mall includes a wedding chapel (Chapel of Love) and an accredited university (National American University). Other notable attractions include The River Church, a 14-screen AMC movie theater, Underwater Adventures Aquarium, Lego Immagination Center, and the Park at Mall of America (formerly known as Camp Snoopy).
The Park at MOA is the largest indoor theme park in the United States and includes 2 roller coasters. Another interesting fact is that despite being located in sometimes chilly Minnesota there is no heating plant at the Mall. Heat comes through the skylights located throughout the Mall, lighting fixtures, and is produced by employees and guests of the Mall in sufficient quantity to keep the space comfortable. Even on the coldest day air conditioning systems are run non-stop to keep the Mall from getting too hot.
