Preparations are under way to remove the Fish Hatchery building. Originally built for the US Fish & Wildlife Service it was transferred to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources several years ago but it hasn't been used for decades, and instead has set empty and not maintained. Consequently it is no longer safe. Concerns about affecting the stability of the Mill Pond Dam however were raised as the foundation of the fish hatchery is tied into the dam. So it was decided to fill the basement will sand and gravel to ensure the dam's integrity.
