Originally built by settlers from Vermont the historic Terrace Mill milled up to 40 barrels of flower a day from wheat brought by farmers from as far away as the Dakotas. Improvements in transportation, and the fact the railroad didn't come to Terrace Mill, reduced the Mill's ability to compete with bigger mills elsewhere. (Notably those on the Mississippi River in what is now the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.) The Mill has been restored to much of its former glory and today stands as a museum and a scenic stop along the scenic Glacial Ridge Trail. Also nearby are the keystone arch bridge, weir dam, early log cabin, heritage cabin and the fabulous Terrace Company Store Restaurant. On summer weekends Terrace bustles with summer visitors touring the historic mill, marveling at the beauty of the keystone bridge while the Chippewa River roars underneath, or perhaps to enjoy a concert at the Mill's outdoor amphitheater. On a Sunday afternoon in late September Terrace Mill hosts Minnesota's annual fiddler's contest with participants of all ages.
