20080403 190 Mallard SERIES.jpg

Ottawa River

Six mostly consecutive action shots taken with my D300 and 70-300 mm VR lens. Because of the still present deep snow, I decided to go light this time and leave the tripod and heavier lenses at home. The third image is, in my opinion, most intriguing. As I was panning and following the Mallard, a clump of trees got in the way. The two exposed sections of the Mallard are both still in focus, as is the next shot. I had a simmilar experience with a Canada Goose this afternoon, where a tree blocked the rear half of the goose, yet the exposed front half of the goose in flight is still in good focus.

Image No. 1: Off to meet his lady.

Comming in for the landing.

Darn it, those trees are in the way.

In spite of the trees, both the next/above image and "The Landing" came off without a hitch.

Quack! quack! WAIT for me!

OK Dear, I'm right over here. Now, "Will you marry me".

Great splash of color popping out of the drab background. V
