20171107 7827 Pileated Woodpecker.jpg

Ottawa West

Note the small area of exposed flesh on the left side of its chest, just below the neck. I had not noticed this whilst taking photos. It may have had some altercation or perhaps it flew into something. Whatever it is, it doesn't seem to be in any discomfort or distress.

Perhaps just "Hen-pecked", Hank….:~)…lol! She-who-must-be obeyed seemed to be ragging on him to find new digs, remember?

What a beautiful shot this is. Love these big woodpeckers. Interesting about the bit of exposed flesh.

Could it be painful? Nice shot Hank :))

Maybe a flying chunk of wood hit him. Looks like he's been hard at work on that log. Nicely photographed.
