20101109 206 White-tailed Buck 10 SERIES.jpg

Old Quarry Trail

Six images of ONE BIG MEAN BUCK. Some of us (including me)were too eager to have their picture taken beside him. All kidding aside, a few of us have been tempting fate a bit, just to get a better shot.

This Buck is definitely THE BOSS on the range. There are four or five other large Bucks in the area but I've only seen this one chasing the Does, whilst the others stay away. I've seen several large bucks with battle scars, including some on THE BOSS. Today, I noticed fresh scars on his right hind quarters next to a previous scar. Today, we also encountered an other 10 point Buck with a large wound on its right side as well as a missing/broken-off tang from his right rack.

Top Image: This was my first encounter with this big Buck. He is just pooped. He had been chasing an unwilling Doe for hours, it seems, through the woods. For this shot, I was positioned behind some trees not too far from the Buck when all of a sudden the object of his affection; namely, the Doe appeared right behind me. That was a bit tense; however, the Doe decided to move on and lucky for me, the Buck seemed too pooped to bother with me. He grudgingly turned around and started chasing the elusive Doe again.

The unrelenting chase is on through woods and clearings.

Looks as if he is glaring at the hand full of photographers who are clicking away close by with one eye closed and one glued to the view-finder.

That's one mean/hungry look.

Yup, I think we should have moved back pronto; however, .......

......the BIG BUCK seems to have changed his mind and continues his quest right past us eager shutter-bugs. One photographer can be seen in the lower right corner of the frame. He too survived the day.
