20090212 CR 1 1014 Bare-throated Tiger-Heron SERIES.jpg

Costa Rica

Two images of the Bare-throated Tiger Heron taken from a boat on the Sarapiqui River. Note the devastation of the shore caused by the recent floods which resulted from the mud slides triggered by the recent earthquake. Note the mud still adhering to the plants in the top image. There was extensive loss of wildlife habitat along both shores. The water was also still very muddy and flowing extremely fast. As a result we saw a lot less wildlife than usual according to our guide and driver.

They say that river is usually crystal clear
you were lucky to catch such a beautiful bird on a river
that can't have a lot of fish at that time!
