Two images, one a male and one a female White-winged Crossbill. An other first for me. Perhaps I should buy a lottery ticket. I don't recall ever seeing Crossbills before. They were reported to be around the area and two of us went looking for them last week. No luck. Today, whilst sitting at the kitchen table I looked up and saw this red bird high up in a Spruce tree that I planted some 40 years ago. I thought it was a house Finch. I went upstairs to our bedroom window for a better look and low and behold there were a dozen or more W-w Crossbills vigorously attacking the cones high up in the Spruce tree. I quickly got my camera and took quite a few shots through the double-paned window. I tried to open the window, but the click of the latch scared them off en mass. The window wouldn't open anyway as it was iced shut. They came back about an hour later and I got some more shots. I didn't go out to try some shots as it was - 26 degrees Celsius.
