Pioneer Jaro Antique Collector Lourdes Delotta

Lourdes Delotta may be the grand dame of antique collecting in Iloilo City. She began collecting Santos, porcelain, furniture and architectural elements decades ago and has given encouragement to succeeding generations of collectors. Her latest enthusiasm is for excavated beads which she restrings to create lovely new creations using these many century old beads. If you look closely you'll see one of her creations gracing Agnes' neck.

Oh i forgot, after i returned to New York, I bought lots of beads and sent them to her. She mentioned that she likes to show the students who visit her how to make bracelets and i am sure, give them a lot of inspiration. I noticed the necklace the younger lady seated next to her. I am quite sure she made that too.

Bob,
Glad to have found this amazing site/blog. I would like to thank you for putting up beautiful pictures and simple thoughts about ILOILO. You make us proud of our hometown. By the way, few years ago, i chanced upon an article from an online newspaper about this amazing woman. Her name is Mrs. Lourdes Delotta. So, I promised myself to see her on my next trip home. fast forward 2 years after. Luck on my side, on the second day of my trip in iloilo, me and my mom stopped by the car-care center to have our truck serviced and instead of seating around the lobby i decided to walk around the neighborhood. Alas, two house from the dealership is her house. Knocked at her door and was also lead in by a helpful servant. She came out to the little sitting area like she's been waiting for us. Bob, isn't she amazing? We chatted the while away telling me how she started antiquing, her passion in life, everything. after 3 hours we finally said our goodbyes. I did not buy anything buy she gave a little token. A 50 centavo coin with my birth year and an antique bead necklace with fossil pendant which now adorn my santo nino. I also walked away that house with fervent desire for life.
