Statue thought to be Philipinne hero Andres Bonifacio who helped launch a rebellion against Spanish rule in 1896. Bonifacio was murdered in 1897, reportedly by supporters of Emilio Aguinaldo.

According to History of the Filipino People, Teodoro A. Agoncillo, Benita Rodriquez with the help of Gregoria de Jesus, Bonifacio's wife, made the first flag. It consisted of a red rectangular piece of cloth with three white K's arranged horizontally at the center. This was the first official flag of the Katipunan society.
