The Short Range Rifle is a standard model in the Peabody catalog. It has a 26 inch round barrel, .45 caliber, measuring .468 groove and .451 land. The serial number 5977, is located on the bottom of the barrel close to the action, but is hidden by the forend. This matching number appears on the hidden part of the action. The serial number does not appear on the butt stock or butt plate. Instead, there appears a small "6" on mating surfaces. This "6" is also in the forend channel. Number "6" must have been the main assembly man in the plant for this rifle. It is noted that the shoulder strap filler plate has a "E" stamped on it as does the hammer. This mark is unknown.
