The original rifle was made by George Schroyer of Hanover, PA circa 1780. A number of his barrels were like this, 48 inches long and .50 caliber. Other details common to his rifles were the use of very early side plates with straight lines. His tang carving and rear ramrod entry thimble carving were nearly identical. Another common detail in his rifles was his use of a 4-leaf flower on the patchbox finial. He used only two inlays on his rifles, the hunter star and the initial plate both in sterling silver. The craftsman of this rifle was Hal in the early 1970s, under the guide of George Stanford. This rifle is from the James Fady collection.
