Hal,

What I've learned about how to have a happy life is what those of you who
share thoughts on this blog actually do.
Put time, energy and nurture good relationships with friends, spouses,
families, neighbors.
Don't associate with people who make you feel badly.
They aren't worth the time.
This is now verified by a longitudinal study that Chester O shared with me.
And you can begin at any time.

Love to you all and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Bing

Well now I can let all of you know.
Don, got me the starring role in the TV program, Naked and Afraid.
Being 74 yrs old, this sounds like a death wish.
Well me and my wife will be placed in an unknown location for 21 days
wearing nothing but a smile.
I will be bringing some viagra and a Hawaiian war weapon.
She will bring only her smile.
Hopefully we last 2 or 3 days.
If anyone of you thinks I am making this up, let me know if this is a good idea.
If anything goes wrong, we will leave this world the same way in came in,
Naked and Afraid.

Merry Chrismas,
Manny

P.S. Got all of you thinking.
If anyone wants to come along, bring your supplies.
Can't wait to hear from all of you.
Damn, I feel like 18 yrs again.
I hope I put some spice in your lives today, remember, we are never to old.
Hope my pacemaker holds up.

GOD BLESS,

Thanks Moana, you've really become a fount of info.
We already have Josephine's info but I have not yet been able to find confirmable
contact info for Arlene so knowing where she lives really helps.
Ethel did unfortunately pass away in March of this year

Wow Brenda, Ann McCormack still singing... in what, her mid-90s ? Amazing.
Best wishes to you both too.

Thanks Roy and Doug, negativety and gossip are two of my many peeves...
though ones I as well do sometimes find myself working to avoid.

As I've said many times before Irene, I'm just a conduit/means for all of you to
keep the others informed.
Happy holidays to you and yours and may the upcoming New Year be even better
than the ones before.

Yep Doris, I do remember the 'talk' of how that great-looking nice gal could be
'doing better than that'.
No diss on Don, just the perception of 'imbalance' at the time.
Had to look it up... Don had sevral 'fathers' - Clarence Stroud, Jackie Coogan,
& Paul Livermore.
Good night Doris ! And may tomorrow bring a very Happy Holidays and the
promise of a great New Year.

Well, tis the eve, here's wishing all to wake up tomorrow, if not to shiny presents,
to at least a beautiful brand new day.

Aloha,
Hal

To Manny: Yes, we do remember Don Stroud!
We see and celebrate Halloween with him each year at Rodney Cazimero's.
He usually has the greatest costumes!
Also, his mother sings and still has that style she was known for many years
ago at this party.
He has had quite an interesting life, I'm sure he told you!

Robert and I are quite busy and quite happy in our life of serving humanity
in our own way.
We do look forward to class functions this coming year, hopefully.

Australia and the east coast are the two teaching travels on the calendar for
2016 thus far.
We have to remember that our jet engine minds sit atop Volkswagen bus bodies!

We send our love and good wishes to all classmates for now and the coming year!

Blessings,

For Manny,
Just FYI: I used to go "steady" with this Don Stroud for 2 yrs from my
sophomore year till just after graduation from KHS.
He was a cool surfer then. did you know he's the son of Jackie Coogan of
'the Munsters" fame?
Not a great student in HS, though.
In fact, Ms. Nunez once told me point-blank "you can do better than that!"
when she noticed us hanging out together.
Of course, like all of us, he had his good points and his not so good points.
He definitely was an excellent drummer, as you saw in "The Buddy Holly Story."
Also played mean bongos!
He once was the drummer for a small jazz band; I used to go hear them now
and then.
Lead musician was pianist from Punahou.
That's it.
Could spill more beans, but not here and now.
Maybe when i see you in person(??).

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
December 22, 2015

Thanks Moana, that is a really big help.
I think I've now been able to locate Mollie's whereabouts.
Knowing her married name made that difference.
Will pass on your info and mine to the reunion committee and have them try to
contact her to verify... Mahalo again !
Anyone else with the tiniest bit of info on the missing classmates below, please
pass it on as it may really help as it did with the above.

Thanks for sharing Gerri, and Happy 74th to Jack.
Link to some pics of that luncheon below:

Yep Carolyn, we all are fortunate to have reconnected through the years either via
reunions or other means such as this blog.
Thanks for the good wishes

Merry Christmas to you too Manny, and yes, we/I do remember Don Stroud well.
His Mom, Ann McCormick, was a well known singer and she and his step-dad owned and
operated the Embers Steak House.
He also steady-dated one of our classmates back then.

Thanks for the heads-up Shinty, I didn't see his name on the Social Security Death
Index (SSDI) listing but that may be a possible error or name typo.
Will keep checking on him and others.

Keep those holiday good wishes coming folks.

Subject: Fwd: JACK'S74TH SURPRISE LUNCHEON
To: Hal

Aloha Harold, It was that time again, so on short notice Jack celebrated what was to be
another surprise 74th birthday luncheon at the Halekulani Orchid room on Tuesday,
Dec. 15 with an intimate cadre of good pals and stimulating conversatiaons from 1130a - 215pm.
Anyway it was a Surprise until Carl called to ask Jack where the parking was ( he forgot
what I told him) but Jack went along and acted surprise, these old guys are sly.
Anyway just a perfect fantastic gorgeous afternoon setting with tradewinds, so serene,
peaceful and relaxing.
It was perfecto with delicious food except for the unusually skimpy 3 course portion that
was unexpected that I followed this up with Mr. Ulrich Krauer, the GM who was most gracious.
Jack bestowed each guest with a delightful White Maneke Neko "left paw beckoning paw" Cat
supposedly to attract customers and representing Happiness, purity and positive things to come
which at our age are be embraced.
While the maneke neko is not necessarily of masculine interest it sparked stimulating attention
because while originating in Japan it has become a popular good luck figure in Chinese businesses.
While varied by region the general summary is: TRI-COLOR CAT beckons general good luck,
wealth, prosperity.
WHITE CAT: purity, happiness.
BLACK CAT: safety, wards off evil and stalkers.
GOLDEN CAT: wealth and prosperity.
RED CAT: protection from evil & illness(especially illness in children).
PINK CAT: love, relationships & romance.
GREEN CAT: education/studies.
The RIGHT PAW RAISED: invites money & good fortune(usually to businesses)
The Neko Cat is called: Fortune Cat, Lucky Cat, Money Cat, Welcoming Cat, legends vary.
Regardless of it's name, legend, raised paws, color or item in it's paws, you basically can't go
wrong with a Fortune Cat perched by your side.
Daughter, Kim gave Jack a beautiful purple and white thick Tahitian orchid lei, we sang the birthday
song and Jack blew out his candles, opened his great gifts with great thanks.
A fun game of questions followed and Chester Otani, Milton Napuunoa, Elwood Lim and my friend,
Joy won gift certificates for Romano's Macaroni Grill.
Jack loved it all and commented that we should do this often....I have to think about that one but it always
is so nice to gather with cherished old pals moreso as time keeps moving on.
Jack and I wish you, our dear classmates and friends a wonderful Christmas Holiday and a magnificent
New Year and much Good Health to you and yours.

Aloha pumehana me ke aloha.

Question for your brains.
Anybody remember Don Stroud from Kaimuki High.
He would have been a '61 Grad.
He dropped out his jr. year.
We met for lunch two weeks ago, haven't seen him in 55 yrs
In the '60's he was the number 4 rated surfer in the world.
We talked about surfing and Waikiki in our younger days.
I was a surfer in my teens back then.
What did he go on to do with his life.
Hint, Sherry Winters was his girfriend, 35 yrs ago.
Check out the movie, The Buddy Holy Story, he is the drummer in the movie.
Well that's too much work for all you old people.
Hope all is well with the people of my youth.

GOD BLESS,
Manny
