August 31, 2011

Bing, as I understand it, there will probably be two 2012 reunion gatherings much like what we had in 2010.
One in Hawaii, likely again sometime in April with multiple events and activities as in 2010. and another in
Las Vegas probably in October.
As Pearl noted below, the reunion committee will be meeting on Wednesday, 9/7/2011, 6PM at Unity House.
There should be a little more confirmation then on events for at least the Hawaii portion of the 2012 reunion.
Will post what I hear on the next blog or you'll see it on the next 'official' reunion newsletter that will likely
be mailed out a little after this next meeting.
By the way, good to see that you and Hank 'survived' the earthquake and hurricane... stuff you'd more likely
experience here in Hawaii than in D.C.

WIS '57-KHS '60 classmates, don't forget to thank, as I do now, Elsie Tanaka Ayers who originally contacted
me for assistance after herself being contacted by Gary Yamagata (WIS-MHS) requesting assistance with
locating WIS-KHS classmates... and of course Amy Nakashima Kashiwai who took it from there.

Manny, where you stay ? Carol Andrade, myself and most of the others haven't heard from you in a while.

Frances, more like closer to 52 years... I remember you well, saying hello and talking story up to maybe our
junior year, then losing track of you and a lot of others after... wish I had a chance to say hello to Sadie
Shishido at the WIS reunion as I remember her too though not knowing her well.
Speaking of which, must apologize to Frieda Taniguchi Sen for not initially recognizing her and saying
hello (again)... recognized her only after looking later at the pictures I had taken... did the same thing to
her at our 40th reunion at the Sheraton Waikiki... Frieda, next year, I promise, I won't forget.

WIS '57 reunion committee, thank YOU for allowing me to enjoy the reunion fun throughout and to grab a
few shots of not only my KHS classmates but also of the others, all of whom were obviously thoroughly
enjoying the reunion and camaraderie.

I, too would like to congratulate Brenda & Bob, what a lovely couple they make and from what some birdies say,
a true Cinderella story.

BRENDA:
I showed my Ignacio cousin your picture from the reunion in Vegas.
She couldn't believe how you both look alike including the hairstyle/color.

Saw Manny & his wife Janet a few weeks ago, they're both well.
Although, his motormouth still goes on-nevah changes. Ah well, that is Manny.

It's nice that some of our classmates visit those unable to attend functions or talk story time.
Finding one that has been MIA the more precious, like Doug & Chester.

DOUG:
I will always remember you with that Elvis look with that lock of hair hanging down.
Good ole days with Mel and the guys making music at assembly timel
Take care and well wishes.

AMY:
So glad your WIS reunion was a blast and successful.

It was so good to see you again after all these years...has it really been 51???
And I really never changed my maiden name - just left the name tag as it was and really had people confused
when they didn't recognize me or the name!

Thank you sooo much for all your kokua.
Also a big mahalo for the candid shots. I think you got nearly everyone there.

Sadie and I were talking about the 70 year KHS reunion and we will probably attend.
Will try to talk the other gang members into going too.

Thanks again.

Hi Hal,

We were pleasantly surprised at the number who attended and how much fun was had by all.
Many of the MHS friends hadnít seen our classmates who went on to KHS since leaving WIS,
so it was interesting to hear their stories.
Credit goes to Amy (for asking you) for making that happen.

Thank you again for taking the time to come out to Natsunoya and for taking great candid shots.
It looks like you were able to photograph everyone who attended.
Iíll pass the link on to those who have email, as Iím sure they will enjoy looking at the photos as much as I did.

Below is the link to the pictures of the WIS '57 August 13th reunion on the Pbase website.
I've probably missed quite a few shots of people... not knowing the majority of them and not being sure
whether I had already taken their picture.
Also, in my haste to take the pictures and leave before this party-crasher became a distraction, I neglected
to properly set up the camera for good clean shots.
So, if anyone has pictures of the reunion that they'd like to pass on to me, I can post those on the Pbase site.
I'll be naming the individuals that I know or see a name tag on in the pictures but would appreciate any help
in naming or corrections.
Please pass on the link to any attendee interested in the pictures... would also appreciate receiving email
from them if possible to acknowledge having received/viewed the link/pictures.

Chester, great to hear that you and Doug finally were able to contact each other after all these years... and
credit Roy for his dedication and caring.

Carol... I can't do a movie but I'm working on a novel... I'm already past page one.

Glad I could play a small inadvertant part in your happiness, Brenda... and forgiveness not needed, we all
appreciate a feel-good story.

Well said Carol... I try to adhere to something somewhat similar... do unto others, or it will come right back to
bite you... I think it's something like that.

Hi, Harold!

What a pleasant surprise it was to see you last night!
You're looking great!
Merle, Iris and the others were so happy to finally meet you and to personally thank you for all that you
did for us.
Yes, if not for the help you so graciously provided, we would not have had such a good showing of 23
KHS classmates.
Seemed everyone had a wonderful time as was evidenced by the happy sounds and happy faces.
Now that it's over, while reflecting, I'm overcome with much appreciation for having had the opportunity
to renew old friendships and for the wonderful folks like you, who go out of their way to help others.
Thank-you so very much, Harold. I am truly grateful.

Aloha Hal!

Thanks for the Douglas Yoshimura postings.

Roy Okano called me from the center and put Doug on.
After enthusiastic long-time-no-see greetings, we reacquainted ourselves and chatted for the first time
since August, 1962 (I joined the Air Force).
We did have a little difficulty communicating, he with a ventilator inhibiting his speech a bit and me with
two hearing aids which don't work as advertised (these never do!).
But, we managed.
Needless to say, we are going to keep in touch often via mail.

Hal, Carol, et. al. You are all precious!
Yes, Carol called a "B.J.M. Ignacio" in the phone book, thinking perhaps that she might reach a relative,
like my brother Marney (class of 59) and was so surprised to be speaking with the missing link. Ha!
I was thrilled to hear her!
I had not attended class reunions, not from lack of interest; rather, from the old useless emotion of shame
for having been divorced.
I do not judge anyone, but with my upbringing, I did judge myself.
Thank goodness I got over that.

And, yes, through the blog I asked if anyone knew where Kenneth Kodama or Robert Gore might be.
I actually wanted to ask about Robert without it being so obvious, and Kenneth was such a great classmate,
so he was my smokescreen.
I, too, had looked for Robert over the years, calling the Nazarene churches on the mainland looking for
his father, and then later through Net Detective, I found there are 293 Robert Gores in the U.S. (!!)
I called about 6 of them and then gave up.
Robert, too, had looked for and found me, and did not want to disrupt my life, and I would not have
wanted to disrupt his, either.
The yearning and love was palpable, and yet we were both hoping the other was happy, and found that
neither had forgotten or given up hope for a reunion in our later years.

The rest is history.
He was stoked to see me ask about him, and when he saw "Ignacio," knew that I must be available,
so it was safe to contact me.
This blog was instrumental in getting us together after my dear friend Carol found me.
So love to you, Hal, and to Carol.
We will always be grateful. Truly.

Carol, I was given a case of Go Kailua Magazine from the Kailua Chamber of Commerce, so you may have
one or several copies! Call me!

Please forgive me for placing so much attention on Robert and me.
We can't help wanting to share some good news in these times and spread feelings of unwavering love
and hope.

Aloha Kakou...

See, it's fate.
A friend of mine, who is married to one of our former cheerleaders, had called me asking if I knew the
whereabouts of Brenda; the girls wanted to contact her.
I told him the last I saw her was more than 20 years ago at the mall and had no idea where she was.
Hung up, picked up the phone directory, and voila...Brenda Ignacio was listed.
I called, asked the person who answered is this Brenda Jean Ignacio?
Jackpot! I wonder how many times she has had her name listed in a phone directory?
It was so simple; it just had to be fate that she would be found, Hal would connect with Robert, and they
would rekindle a long lost love.
Happy, happy for them!!
Lesson for the day: we never know what the future holds.

Carol Andrade Gouveia

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
August 9, 2011

One correction if I may, to Carol's post... Carol found Brenda... through, of all things, the phone book.
Brenda, from Carol's info, emailed me to request the link to the reunion pictures which I of course
relayed while adding her to the email blog list.
So, Carol found Brenda... Brenda found us... and I found Bob... yeah, that Bob... well, sort of found him.
I'd been searching for him on and off for a long time, along with all the other classmate MIAs, but renewed
the effort when Brenda mentioned a certain 'dakine' cheerleader that she had a crush on back then...
found and emailed a 'Robert' that looked promising... I figured he would see Brenda's posts and would
be able to figure out how to contact her if he was our classmate 'Robert' and wanted to do so.
Just thought it would be great to have them meet again on the blog for old times sake... but who knew all
of this would happen... not me, certainly.
So there... that's just about how it all happened... ... I think.

More than happy to pass along any request to establish contact, like Pearl's.

Brenda, do you by chance have a copy, or know where I can obtain a copy of, the Go Kailua Magazine

August 6, 2011

Gerri, you surprised me... with your back to me when I walked into Doug's room, I thought maybe one of his
young female friends or a daughter was visiting... ( brownie points ! : )
As Gerri told me and noted in her email below, Doug said he is not really up to having a group visiting for a
luncheon or whatever... but he thoroughly enjoys visits and talking with an individual classmate or two.

I emailed what I believed to be the correct address to Pam... checked with the front desk when I visited Doug
to verify the correct address/procedure... after confirming Doug's preference on visits and seeing how much
he still really enjoys them and likely cards too, posting the mailing address below :

Douglas Yoshimura, Rm. 107
Convalescent Center of Honolulu
1900 Bachelot Street
Honolulu, HI 96817

Congrats and best wishes, Brenda and Bob ! Great news.
Shows I guess, that good things do eventually come full circle.

The reunion committee met this past Thursday, 8/4/11... after much discussion on the classmates' input on the
when, where and how, those were narrowed down to the popular few.
The venues will still have to be checked and confirmed on before exact dates can be pinned down, but the
consensus of the classmates did result in planning for two functions much like in 2010... one in Hawaii that
will be multi-event, again similar to 2010, that will take place sometime in the spring of 2012... the other will
be a venue in Las Vegas sometime in the fall of 2012 with various activities being looked at much as in 2010.
The next reunion committee meeting is tentatively set for Wednesday, 9/7/11... if you have any further input on
suggestions and opinions, don't hesitate to do so on the online survey, by phone, through email, or better still,
at the meeting.

Aloha Harold and pals, Harold, such a nice surprise to see you today in Doug's hospital room.
Since I had a Dr.'s appt. today Doug's place was close by and I was able to pop in to see Doug for over an hour.
Although bedridden, Doug has his usual warm smile when he speaks.
Doug is still charming and handsome as ever with his full head of dark hair that's starting to gray and soft spoken
manner.
I'm glad that I was able to finally see Doug it was an enoyable visit especially since Doug appears to be amazingly
contented very strong minded and in such good spirits.
Doug looks so well, still so young looking babyfaced, gained weight since he is bedridden and is watching his calories.
Brought Doug some Rainier cherries and happy to know that Doug can chew but is careful about what he eats since
he is on a ventilator.
Doug's pastor also dropped by and from what Doug say's, he has many good friends that visit which is good to know
however I feel that Doug would love to see our other classmates.
Doug has always had so much musical talent and has accomplished so much over the years with his musical businesses,
Doug is quite a gentleman.
Told Doug if arrangements could be made to leave the building but Doug said too much hassle and besides " I am a
vain person and prefer not to go out" Doug is so funny but c'est la vie and I can understand.
Asked Doug who he ran around with in school and yes Doug said other than Chester Toma it was girls.
So candid and cute.
I don't have much free time but I will visit Doug whenever I can.
Keep well all.

Aloha, Beloved Classmates,

It's been a whirlwind few months, and it's good to see that some things continue and that contact is maintained.

News: Robert and I are officially engaged, and at this point, our wedding will be this year, followed by a
honeymoon cruise to Tahiti and Australia, a first for us both. We are blissfully happy, and I have been flying
back and forth to Seattle to see him, and he comes over here, also. Plans are for him to be here by the end
of the year permanently. Yea Team!

Mel Cabang: I have two granddaughters visiting and took the older one to the swap meet to buy trinkets for her
friends back in Las Vegas this past Sunday. Who do I see walking toward us but classmate Mel, with wife, Luz.
She is so kind and lovely! It was nice to meet her and see his peace and happiness. She mentioned that Mel
had lost his brother that very day, so I share with everyone so we can send him healing prayers and love. He
seemed quite sad, of course, yet he was cordial. It's nice to see classmates claim happiness after some bumps
in the road.

As soon as I catch my breath, I will be in contact with some 70th BD ideas.
Also, anyone living on the windward side might want to check the Go Kailua magazine for July and see what I've
been up to with the healing work I so love.
Blessings are flowing nicely, and I am so grateful to have this means of sharing, as we care for each and every,
I know.
To read of kindness with Doug and others is food for the heart.

Love,
Brenda Ignacio

Reminder: reunion committee meeting Thursday, 8/4/11, 6PM at Unity House, 1701 Ala Wai Blvd...
anyone else wanting to drop by and listen in, please do.

That's good to know Roy, that Doug may be far more mobile than what I saw... if so, having something
much like what was done for Sandy Ishimoto Yamada would be a great idea... unless you've already
spoken to Doug to see if he's decided, I'll try to drop by sometime this week to visit and ask him too.

Nice of you to think of Doug, Carol, being on a neighbor island and all... I'm sure he'll really appreciate
the card and thoughts.

Edwina, Karen, along with others, a visit with Doug might be an ideal get-together if he's up to having
a lot of classmates at once... I know timing might be problem, so if that doesn't pan out, anyone have
other places/times in mind that will work for a get-together ?

Hal
