The DVD really is a keepsake Seda, thanks in no small part to people like you and the others who were kind
enough to share their photos of the reunions... it is a very 'professionally' done DVD that everyone should get
a copy of... last I know they were still available to order.
Reminder to all the WIS-KHS people on the reunion meeting this Saturday, April 2nd at 1PM... contact Amy
Nakashima Kashiwai - wis57reunion@yahoo.com or me for the address.
For those people and all the rest, I understand there'll be a KHS '60 reunion meeting sometime in mid-May to
plan on our 70th B'day reunion for next year... will keep you posted as I find out more.

Hi Everyone,
The time seems to fly by, I finally had a chance to view the DVD of the 50th Reunion.
I had no Idea I was a featured photographer.
Chester thanks so much for including me in this very sweet production of the reunion.
You did such an amazing job.
The slide show perfect with the right music and mixture of video and pictures.
This is a keepsake that we will all treasure for a long time.

I want to thank Carl for sending out the DVD, Pearl and Hal for your help wherever it is needed.
The weather in LA has been stormy and cold.
We have never had such heavy rains before.
Hope all is well, Aloha Seda

Reflecting briefly again on the growing tragedy in Japan... please pause to direct your thoughts, prayers and
whatever assistance you can provide to all in need of them.
Amy, that's what makes the blog great... you, Elsie and all the others sharing and reconnecting.
And any 'old Hal' can do the blog for the WIS-MHS group... sharing-caring classmates are what's needed...
and they seem to already have that. WIS '57 classmates, if you're planning to drop by at Iris' place...
to help out, kibbitz, chat and just reconnect... let me know and I'll provide you the address and directions...
it's just a few blocks Mauka of the Kaneohe City Mill area... easy to get to. I've been invited to drop by and
say hello... so would be great to see any, or all, of the following WIS-KHS email recipients, who may be on
island, at the WIS '57 meeting : Alvin, Arline, Barbara, Beverley, Carole, Dave, Edward, Elwood, Gary, Kenneth,
Lorene, Matilda, Phyliss, Ralph, Richard, Robert, Roy, Shirley, Timothy... or any other WIS-KHS classmate.

Hi, Hal!

Yes, I agree with Elsie.
Our blog is simply wonderful!
The McKinley folks are so envious.
They're looking for their Hal to do a blog for them too.
We are so lucky! And it's been great reconnecting with Elsie whose beauty really starts from within.

Yes, Elsie, I do intend to attend our next reunion and I will encourage Frieda to do so as well.
Through my involvement with the WIS reunion, like with you, I've reconnected with other old friends
and have learned and can appreciate so much more about them, perhaps because I now see them
through more matured (not old :)) eyes.
That being said, it makes me want to attend future reunions.

And while I'm at it, may I encourage the Class of '57 Washingtonians to please attend the reunion that
is planned for August 13th?
And if there's anyone interested in helping the planning committee, the next meeting will be at
Iris Okahashi Takayama's home in Kaneohe on April 2nd.
We sure could use the help.

Thank-you again, Hal.

Below is a repost of a message from Chester, reminding of the KHS annual fundraiser.

Subject: Kaimuki High School Foundation annual fundraiser

Kaimuk High School Foundation is sponsering their annual fundraiser on Saturday, March 19, 2011,
from 4:30 to 8:30 PM.

It usually includes dinner, silent auction, door prizes and entertainment.
It starts at the school cafeteria and moves to the school auditorium.

Tickets are $25 donation or more.
Donations above $5 may be tax deductible.
KHS Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

They prefer that you RSVP by March 4, 2011 by mailing them the following information (but last
minute guests are welcome; donations can be made at the reception table):

Name, address, city, state, zip code.
They also ask for home, business and other phone numbers.
I usually don't give out this information.
They also ask for email address.
I, also, don't give out this information.

Include information about how many tickets you want @ $25 each, plus any separate donation you
might want to make.

Please send checks payable to: Kaimuki High School Foundation 2705 Kaimuki Avenue
Honolulu, HI, 96816-1396

The tickets you order can be picked up at the reception table at the cafeteria.
The request for RSVP is so that the cafeteria staff will know how many dinners to prepare.
You can show up unannounced.

Through donations, the Foundation has been able to donate over $100,000 to the school to help fund
projects and support student activities since 2003.

Some of the projects that have been funded by the Foundation for the 2010-2011 school year are:

1. The purchase of computers for student use in the school library.

2. Supporting the development and offering of a College and Career Fair for all students.

3. Subsidizing the transportation costs for Science students to study the Paepae o Heeia ancient fish
pond.
4. Providing funding for the purchase of a Classroom Performance System designed to enhance the
learning of current and future science students.

5. Funding to development and implementation of the first Robatics program at Kaimuki High School.

6. Funding to support programs designed to enhance reading and testing skills.

It is hoped that the Class of 1960 can help the Foundation help the students at Kaimuki High School.

If you cannot make it on March 19, 2011, perhaps you might consider a donation.
Mahalo.

A brief moment off-topic from the KHS stuff to reflect on the tragedy in Japan... I know that many of us not
only have family ties but also immediate family and loved ones there... I'm sure I speak for all of us in saying
that hopefully this finds all away from harm's way... and our thoughts and prayers for those who are not.
Wow Elsie... Edison's light bulb... I would have settled for Love's sliced bread... but as the disclaimer below
states, this blog is only possible with the contributions of 'memories and communication' such as yours and
the rest of the classmates.
Hard to believe it has been two years since I, along with some others, received this email from Roger... which
turned out to be the pot on the stove that started the idea of passing around more old memories through email
and ended up being the email blog stew that it is today... a potluck of memories, bits of old friendships with
communication renewed, and with reunion news stirred in.

I was working in the cafeteria when we heard the civil defense sirens go off.
We knew that Congress had passed the Statehood Bill.

Scroll to to about the middle of the page.

Just entering Intermediate school as an awkward, wide-eyed kid fresh from the farm, Roger was one of the first
non-Waialae Elem. classmate to befriend me... welcoming me into the fold as it were and sort of introducing me
to the ways of the (teen) world... not even ridiculing me (much) for my pathetic lack of boy scout hiking/camping
skills... scouting, where I got to know his cousin better too... Ted also was one of the first to introduce me to the
ways/wiles of our (teen) world... caffeine, just barely out of my pre-teen years (coffee at a sidewalk cafe on
Koko Hd Ave before our scout meetings), being just one, of which I am now hopelessly addicted to... to them I
owe much of what I am today... an awkward, bleary-eyed, sleep-deprived senior citizen.

Hi, Hal….haven’t contributed to this blog in a while, but have been enjoying reading all the comments
and what a great time you all had at Tsukuji’s.
Arline: Thank you for your comment about the great photographers we have in our class.
I have been saying this for so long and hope that our reunion committee will consider having future
reunion photos taken by our talented guys, i.e. Hal, Roy, Chester, Carl and all others contributing their
photos to this DVD…..Chester did such a professional job!!

This site is the greatest idea since the light bulb!!!
I have connected with Amy Nakashima Kashiwai after all these years!
She is still the nicest person that I remember.
Asked about her many times over the years and wonder about quite a few others that we haven’t seen at
our reunions.
It is quite a small world….Amy and Frieda Taniguchi Sen are in-laws, how about that!
Would love to see Frieda at our next gathering also.
Amy, you said you would attend the next reunion, right???
Hope you’ll convince Frieda to come also.

Mahalo Carl, for all that you do and know that you are much appreciated.
Thank you all for bringing such enjoyment into our lives through this blog.

Good idea on the check Betty, although I haven't heard anything about a deadline on ordering for the DVDs
I don't think it likely the committee will be producing copies for too long a period... they are, after all, just
donating their time and effort.
Except for a few who will still be 69 or some who will reach 71... yep, we'll reach that milestone of 70 years.
Whether it's 69, 70 or 71, another way of looking at 2012 is it will be the 55th year since our 'graduation' from
our respective Intermediate schools... so happy upcoming 55th reunion to WIS, KIS and other ISs.
Oh wow... talk about the roar of the crowd... there were at least a dozen or more conversations going on at
the same time at the two tables in Tsukiji... well, sort of makes sense since there were around 28 of us at
one time or another sitting around yakking if we weren't walking about filling our plates... or mouths...
did catch a few of us, females even, sampling before heading back to the tables.
So pardon the impression some of us left of being in the deeper end of the pool of senility... what with my
tinnitus and rudimentary lip-reading skills, I'm sure I was, like many of us there, at least a half-thought behind
in conversations... or probably merrily going along with totally different thoughts-conversation and not realizing it.
Regardless, looking at the faces of the classmates there, it seemed and was more the camaraderie and the
sense of the moment that mattered... 'nevah know what you said, was good fun but'... what a great class.
Again... (I know, and yet again)... no problem in requesting and my forwarding contact requests to any of the
classmates in the recipients list above... with your contact info intact and having the 'requestee' respond if he
or she so wishes... noting that a non-response may not mean a desire not to respond.

Harold, Pam, Cliff & dear friends, It was indeed my great pleasure to be able to gather this great bunch of friends
for our visiting pals, Pam Machida Halford and Clifford Ching, and as Harold alluded to a fun classmate gathering
of "Hens and Roosters".
And yes, the din was ear breaking, it took me a good half hour or so to get everyone's attention to start on the
buffet and apparently Harold is right, the hearing acuity may have added to the gross inattention.
Besides the toasting to Pam and Clifford, I had planned a short speech and to have Pam and Cliff say a few words,
but with everyone trying to catch up on each others past history etc. and me trying to speak above the racket I
gave up after looking at both sides of the tables and noting that everyone was so engrossed
in talking as well as trying to hear and recognize each other to even care.
Too funny.
Marjorie is now hyped up and waiting for the 70th great class reunion that the Reunion Committee must now be
working on.
Again Mahalo nui nui to everyone who helped and joined the luncheon.
