Roy, you may want to check with Chester to contact Wally since he's not connected to email... might be faster
than searching and deciphering notes.

Honolulu... small city in a small world, Clarence... Wallace Nakaoka's brother was my neighbor for over 15 years,
Pearl Chun's husband was a tech college classmate 45 years ago, Carole Masuda and Robert Matsuda were
calabash relatives of mine, through marriage, and Paul Texeira is my half-brother... well... shares part of
my very distant ancestry anyway... who knows what else exists within the backgrounds of our classmates...
small city, small world, big network... indeed.

Done, Jacqueline, and welcome aboard Marjorie... my reply to them below :

Marjorie, Jacqueline,

Below is the most recent email blog that was sent out... done anywhere from daily to a few days in between...
depending on the input from the classmates.
Note that there is really no 'registration' per se... simply a list of classmates receiving the 'memories' and any
communication and information of relevance via email.
Note also the links to the reunion pictures website in the email blog below.
Also, the format for the email is as shown... no email addresses showing, just names of classmates, all are emailed
through the 'Bcc' line... though no response or participation in the email blogs is expected or required, we do
encourage everyone to do so... any kine memories, relevant thoughts and comments you like write... go for it.

Hal

Hal,

Great job on the photo id.

We tried the first recipe from the Ohana cookbook, Raynor's Super Butter Mochi.
Took it to my Sunday morning adult class, afraid the haoles aren't used to eating exotics though one lady asked
if it was like the Chinese cake at the Chinese buffet [buffets are big thing here in South Bay, So. Cal, sometimes
referred to as being New York style Chinese buffets. Food is okay, eat all you can, just don't expect gourmand
level; think Chinese Todai.].
In an round-about way I answered yes.
One of the fellows had two pieces but no comments from the others.
Our family loved it though and finished the last piece tonight.
We started with this recipe since this was one of the first recipes and Bing had given it raves.
Thanks for sharing Raynor.

Would you pass this message to Wallace Nakaoka and ask for a little clarification on his Butter Cake whether it is
baking powder or baking soda since both are mentioned and only the baking powder is given in the ingredients.
By the way, we found lots of enjoyment just going through the cookbook and recipes and plan to try more recipes.
Wally's Butter Cake is next on my list, then we'll have to get around to all those other secret, family, or broke the
mouth recipes that Seda, Karen, Bing, Bobbie, et al highlighted as their "signature" dishes.
We'll have to pace ourselves to keep the weight gain off from all the butter this and butter that.

Re. Carol Chock (Tom) query/remarks concerning Alvin Ing.
Alvin responded to Suellen that he and Carol's sister, Thelma, were classmates from Roosevelt H.S. and U of H and
are very old friends.
Small world or Honolulu is a small city.

For Paul Texeira: painting, frame and box withstood being Delta "checked" baggage; no dings, cuts or other damages
on arrival.
I bubble wrapped and added cardboard corner cushions, taped it nicely and declared it as "Fragile".
Next, find some wall space to hang and enjoy it.

Aloha you all,
Clarence

I just talked to Pearl Mori and she gave your email address.
I would like to register for my sister - Marjorie Mau Partridge.
She just missed the reunion on the 17th as she came home on the 21st for a family gathering.
She is on her way home and would be interested in attending the reunion in Las Vegas in October.
If you would please add her to your list, I would appreciate it.

Thanks for your assistance.

Roger is not the only naive one...me too!
Reading Brenda's email was like reading a Readers Digest version of one of the most romantic tales ever!
What would be really great is for the two of you to write a book...which I'm sure would be a best-seller,
and Hollywood would surely pick it up...better than "Love Story" for sure!

I'm so happy for the two of you...May you live happily ever after!
Love, Carol

April 27, 2010

Pearl, it's become almost automatic for me to remove email addresses but I do appreciate... and do need...
the occasional reminder to do so or that I've done so... may seem paranoidal, but in this day and age...
also a good reminder... if there's anyone else wanting to contact another classmate, I'll be more than
happy to pass on a contact request using the same procedure.

Thanks Mae... I know and see everything... but sometimes late night and wee morning hours play devilish
tricks on the mind... hoh, good excuse yeah.

No charge for the CD Elsie... much like Carl, Jean and the others, just want to help spread the memories...
would appreciate help with distribution though... perhaps sending a CD or two to one person within a
common area for that person to copy/send out to others within that area... would help immensely... will
continue putting together pics from myself and Chester Otani ( honestly didn't have time to take as many
pictures myself as I would have wanted to ) onto the CD... will let you all know as soon as it's ready.

Bob, Brenda... that picture on the website is one I copied from one of several newsletters that Chester so
generously offered to loan me for copying... a lot of the others are from Jean Nakamura who loaned me
her collection of around three years of newsletters... sent all the way from Alaska !

Roger, I was thinking the same thing about Pamela... Pam, where's home ?... Canada, Florida or Hawaii ?
Sounds like a best of three worlds type of thing : )
To be honest, I also just had an inkling of Bob and Brenda's story through the years... bits and pieces...
naive... yeah, that's it.

I think that Jalna's was talking about Shirley, not Seda.
The location of the caption made it misleading.
Jalna's blog was the first time I heard about the Brenda/Robert story.
I guess that I'm dumb and naive (emphasis on naive) because I thought that it was a great coincidence
that Robert called while we had a Kincaid's get together.
Never wondered why Robert would call a such a time nor how he had Brenda's phone number.
I wonder why Pamela calls Canada home.
She spends five months in Florida and a month and a half in Hawaii.

Hi Hal,

I received a CD of the photos Jalna took at the reunion.
There's a lot more on the CD than what she posted on her blog.
I enjoyed so much looking at them and trying to figure out who was who.
On some I could see the name tags, on others I couldn't.
I'll be doing a post on my blog with some of the pictures.
Irene and I are getting together on Wednesday for lunch and looking forward to hear her stories of the reunion.

I wondered if you would want to pass along my email address to Pearl Chun Louie.
I'd love to catch up with her, that's if she is interested. :)

It was Shirley Tamashiro that recognized Jalna from a wedding that Jalna photographed.
Shirley is the auntie of either the bride or groom, I don't remember.

for you come January - February.

Pearl, Carolyn, working on it... whenever a spare moment comes up... will let you know.

Hal,
I did just fine at the craft fair, I sold half my inventory and almost all of my sister-in-laws purses.
Most of all, we had fun participating in the KHS reunion first craft sale.
My friend Alvin Ing is a person that seems to know everyone, he reminds me of Eddie Hayashi.
Everywhere we go, Alvin and Eddie knows someone or someone comes up and say hello to them, its uncanny!
Hal, I was not the person who saw Jalna at a wedding, sorry.
But wanted to extend thanks to her for taking great pictures at the reunion.
It was a pleasureto meet her.
I leave tomorrow to go back home with sweet memories of the KHS 50 reunion.

Carol, Seda, Clarence, et al. ( one day I have to meet this et al. person Gerri and others refer to )... is it where the
older one becomes, the smaller the world becomes too... or just seems that way.

Nice to know you're back home safe Elsie... and that you enjoyed the reunion.
Wanted to wait until they brought it up or someone else did... really happy also for Bob and Brenda... when she
mentioned once having a 'crush' on a senior 'haole' cheerleader, played detective even harder to try and find
contact info for the guy I thought fit the bill... no, wasn't trying to play cupid... may be the right size but 'chubby
pink cherub' doesn't quite describe me... never knew it would develop into this... hey, you can't even write stuff
like that... just felt it imperative that those classmates who had / have fond memories of each other join in the
email blog... if I was one of those able to have a small part in enabling contact with Bob, then it seems it was
more than worth the effort.

Great that you enjoyed yourselves Clarence... and I still say you look pretty much the same.

Gerri, I noticed Paul is able to wear shorts without inspiring disparaging comment, so no similarity there... maybe
Miki can enlighten us on where Paul and I are similar... uhh, that didn't come out right... moving on to the craft fair.
The craft fair sure turned out far, far better than I, in my poor pessimistic foresight, had anticipated... they really
didn't need any heavy 'pre-exposure' on the blog and website as I had thought... the 'products' sold themselves.
I still enjoyed helping out the little I could though... great job, craft fair people.
Echoing Gerri... any such communication or announcements between and for classmates is welcome here.

Thanks for the message Lynne... although I won't post powerpoint slideshows, movies, pictures, etc. because of their
length and/or size ( I'd have over a 100 classmates upset at me at the large email, not to mention the ISPs ), I did
manage to find a website with that slideshow on it... I've attached that URL to your message... Mahalo.

Carol ! Guess your temporarily back to Caroline after the reunion... noticed everyone calling you that... well... that's
how we remembered you as, much like Carolyn Chock and Betty Ann (somehow rolls off easier than just Betty) Ing.
Ahh yes... fine wine in ageless crystal... glad nobody equated me to mature beer in a paper cup.

Betty(Violet)... sorry, with two Betty's (even though one is a Bing) needed to differentiate... no problem with 'grabbing'
the pictures from the Pbase website... yes, Jalna did mention Paul, wife, father-in-law, cousin or something like that...
believe that classmate who saw Jalna was Seda Deguchi Pratz (see Mae, other than with Paul, I do see and know
- almost - everything : )

Hi Pearl... got the emails that Jalna had gotten in touch with you... hope it works out... I can do a CD for you and Kiki
but it may take a while as I work on this blog, the Pbase website and a lot of other things... will let you know as soon
as I can find the time... just figured it out... I had tech school classes with your husband Hiram about 45 years ago !

Yep, they were in the music dept. at UH Manoa way back when (she's 10 yrs older than me) and have been
friends ever since.
Recently she & her husband spent time with him and others while he was home due to his mother's illness.

It was so much fun and met quite a few classmates who attended for the first time in 50 years.

Congratulations to Brenda and Robert……destined to be together.
From the bottom of my heart, I wish only the best for you and happiness always.

Just want to add my vote of thanks to that of Pearl's to all of the committee members and their spouses and friends
that helped bring the reunion together, accommodating all the requests, questions, logistics and meetings needed
to put on this very happy affair.
Of course, we shouldn't neglect Pearl herself, Nappy, and you Hal for your collective efforts to make the reunion
a success.
Too bad a few classmates couldn't attend or had to cancel because of conflicts.

I'm not a cook, but have read the various recipes with interest and an opportunity to try them for taste
(if I can get Suellen to prepare them.)
Thanks for sharing.

Both Seda and Suellen separately shared their stories with Sue's cousin Alvin and they all had a good chuckle.
We made it back to LA and the weather was much cooler than Honolulu (low 51 deg F).
Well all places are compromise; Ain't life grand?

Harold etal, Harold you are so serious at times you are also too funny, so now you are incredulous that you found
an "unknown Okinawan", cute Paul Texeira, that's right, Paul is Okinawan like you so now what, now you know
every Okinawan in our 1960 class, right!
I thought everyone knew this about Paul at school.
Paul can you show us where the Okinawan part of you shows up, we and Harold all want to know.
It always is so special to have an event to visit with our dear classmates and gratitude goes to the great Reunion
committee for their hard work putting this reunion event together.
Everyone seemed to be smiling all night.
The craft fair was fun, kudos to Elsie Tanaka Ayers beautifully crafted bracelets, Seda Deguchi Pratz's exquisite obi
purses perfect for cell phones and the artistic Manny Mattos's Hawaiian items was a special touch.
We are delighted that Virginia Kakazu Tully made the silent bid for Side Street Inn that she will use for her family,
wonderful.
Wonder who bid for Betty Ing Douglas's gorgeous kimono, I would have loved to bid for it, but no wall room at my
house, what a treasure.
Can anyone tell me what the large silver spatula like wooden handle item in the gift sack with all the goodies is
used for?
Sheila, no one has to wait for another 5 years after all we are all getting up there, you can always get together for
an independent breakfast, lunch, cocktails, dinner etc. gathering later in the year, next year, whatever, if classmates
visiting or celebrating an occasion.
Just place it on Harold's 60's Bulldog wireless blog to see who can get together, you never know who wants to chew
the fat, so no shame here.
Kincaid's Sunday for Cocktails was listed with Harold's Blog and also announced twice by Paul Texeira and there was
a nice turnout at KIncaid's Sunday evening visiting with Chesta Otani, Myron Kekaula, Betty & Hank Ing-Douglas,
Seda & Ron Pratz, Carolyn and Hal Amoy Overholtzer, Arline & Noel Hirahara Gokan, Marjorie Morimoto,
Robert and Charlene Matsuda, June and Steve Yanazawa Kobayashi, hope I didn't miss anyone.

Thank goodness for the name tags to identify our pals, Jack missed seeing Betty Ing, after the party I told Jack that
Betty only passed by us about 3 times, so funny, it was a ball trying to figure out who was who and talking to as
much people as we ran into.
Was tied up and late for Sandy's luncheon at Maunalani Hospital, great bunch of people there talking and laughing,
again fun to see see Sandy and our classmates, yummy sushi, desserts etc.
Thanks to Wally Nakaoka for his delicous home Kapahulu grown bok choy, nothing like home grown.
Fondest alohas and mahalo to our dear classmates KHS60

Aloha Kakou!

Sending my warmest Aloha to you, the KHS Class of '60!
It was a privilege to gather with all of you this past Saturday to celebrate our 50th Class reunion;
the time together was much too short.
It was a step back in time and seeing so many familiar, yet different, faces made me wonder how
each of us has spent the past 50 years of our lives.
Just imagine the interesting stories to be told!
Like fine wine (or whiskey, if you prefer), we have all matured and reached a point in our lives that

Hi, Hal!

Yes, Jalna and I have not met in person.
We have become great pals through our blogs.
I am not sure how I found her blog, it has been a couple of years, I think.
I do know that she is a sweet person, very generous too.
Words can not express how grateful I am to her that she would take time to take pictures of the reunion for me.
She is a Kaimuki High grad, '71 I think, and she lives and breathes photography.
She'd rather be taking pictures than working her day job, I believe. :)
She is sending me a CD of the pictures she took and I can hardly wait.
I've looked at the pictures on her blog and the ones you posted several times already. :))
I will probably grab some of your pictures too to post on my blog, if that's ok.
I have a few posts on my blog about the reunion.
Although I didn't get to actually graduate with all of you, I still feel a part of Kaimuki High's Class of '60.

Jalna has a picture of Pearl Chun Louie and her husband.
I haven't seen Pearl since our high school days.
Right after I had my daughter, she sent me a baby quilt as a gift.
Then we lost contact.
I was so surprised to see the picture of her. :)

And did Jalna tell you that Paul Texeira's wife is her father-in-law's cousin?
Small world!!
There was one of our classmates there that saw Jalna at a relative's wedding taking pictures and recognized her.

I also had a nice conversation with Karen Iha Monday evening and she shared a lot about the reunion with me.
It was good to hear her voice, we've been friends since 7th grade.
Irene Rocha will be home sometime today and we will be getting together in the next few days to hear her stories.
We live close to each other and get together as often as we can for lunch.

I hope, Hal, you will keep up the email so we all can check in once in awhile.

Mahalo for all you do!!!

Hi Harold,

It was great to see former high school classmates that we haven't seen ever since our graduation in 1960.
I was surprised to hear that you and my husband Hiram went to technical school together - sure is a small world.

I was wondering how i can get in touch with the girl that was taking pictures.
She was the friend of Betty Chung Hoon Townsend - want to get a CD if it's possible.
If you took any pictures I wouldn't mind getting copies of them.
Carolyn Amoy Overholtzer also wants to get the above, too.

Many Thanks,
Pearl Chun Louie

April 21, 2010

I remember you being in Hawaii earlier this year Pam... too bad you couldn't make it back... there's
still Las Vegas this October !

Meant to ask you Seda, about how your purse sales did... since you got a late start on the website...
as Elsie Tanaka said 'Seda needs to get her *** moving', or something like that : D... glad it went well.

Glad you enjoyed yourself Sheila... 5 years is a long time... we'll be 72 - 73 years old in 5 years...
but then again, how did 50 years go by so quickly.

Mahalo again Jalna... by the way, I 'borrowed' one of your pics... the group shot : )
Read in your blogsite that you and Betty(Violet) haven't actually met in person... just blog pals... and
you're doing this for her ?
That is really special... Betty(Violet) when you do finally meet Jalna, I can tell you she is truly a sweet
great gal.

Didn't mean to confuse you Mae... was going to say 'I know and see everything', but Pearl had your
message within an email she sent me... and yes I did know it was Matsushige but missed that on
Pearl's email... always try to proof for spelling ( I STILL GET YOUR BACK MANNY ! ), improper or
sensitive content, mis-information, edit out email addresses, etc. but I'll miss a few now and then...
ehhh, pushing 70 already.

Great story on Clarence, Seda... but how come you nevah recognize him... except for the gray, he looks
almost exactly the same.

Lynne, not only was that buggah Nappy fun to listen to but the guy is a fountain of information about
Oahu... some stuff I never knew before... I'll let Pearl or Gerri relay this to Nappy.

OK, first remembrance of the past week of the reunion... forgive me, those who have already heard this,
but I want to pass it on... went to meet Betty Ann Ing and her husband Hank last Thursday to get her
kimono donation that she so generously provided... tried to locate them at the hotel and restaurant
but kept missing them... passing by this gentleman on the sidewalk carrying a briefcase I thought, uhh
is this Hank ? (never met him before)... tall enough... naahh... too local looking... managed to get up to
their hotel room and ring the doorbell and... same gentleman ! Hope he takes this as a compliment : )
Jumping ahead to the banquet... Elsie Tanaka Ayers comes rushing down the aisle pointing her finger at
me (what did I do now ?)... she tells me 'did you know Paul Texeira is part Okinawan ?'... she had gone
up to get her gift or prize and thanked him in Japanese... he gave his 'you're welcome' in Japanese...
surprised, she turned and asked Miki, Paul's wife, who informed her... later at the mini reunion at the
Maunalani Rehab Center I mentioned this to Betty Ann... 'oh I knew about it'... mentioned it to Gerri...
'oh yeah, I knew that way back then'... so, 55 years I know this buggah already, and only now I find out
that part of him is just like me... no, don't want to know which 'part'... I'm always the last to find out.

I'm so jealous that I couldn't be there too but you just had it at the wrong time!!! ha ha ha
I'm usually in Hawaii in January/February and only got back to Canada on April 1 to get my taxes done!!!
Maybe another time.
It was great to be able to see all the pictures of everyone enjoying themselves so much.

Dear Carl and Hal,

I would like to thank you two and all of the reunion committee for a very successful 50th class reunion.
Elsie and I really appreciate all of the help all of you gave us.
Your generous spirits made this reunion a memorable one.
Just can't believe that the reunion has come and gone.
It was great to see old friends and catch up with their lives.
The committee met many times to plan the reunion, the golf tournament, bus tour and actual reunion
dinner went so smoothly and I for one had a great time.
At the end of the evening Clarence Fung, was sent by his wife to gather autographs in the cook book.
As we sat there catching up, he told me that he just came back from Singapore.
I replied, Singapore, we went to Singapore a few years ago to see our close friends, who are actors,
in a play there.
He said, let me guess their names.
I said I know you can't possibly guess!
He said, Alvin Ing and Takayo Fischer.
Yes, that's it!
Alvin Ing, it turns out is his wife's cousin.
I actually met, Clarence and Sue Ellen years ago at Alvin's, but did not recognize Clarence to be
my classmate.
What a small world!
What great fun we all had.
Thanks again, Seda

Hi Hal,

Thanks for sharing all those great pixs of this past weekend!
It was so enjoyable and heartwarming to see so many of our classmates.
Our classmates look so good ... I think we all aged pretty well, don't you agree!

Friday's tour around the island was so much fun.
I think Nappy outdid himself.
Some of us on Saturday evening, were hoping to present him with cans of SPAM after learning how much
he loves "spam & rice".
Please share this with him.

KUDOS to the Pearl Mori and everyone on the committee who worked so hard to make our "50th" reunion
a big success!

It was fun seeing, talking and getting "reacquainted" with old friends.

Big MAHALO to all of you.

As always, I can pass on contact info if needed... such as Jane Mock Pang's.

Aloha Hal,
It was good to finally see you in person after all these years...and all the emails!
Thank you again for doing such a great job with keeping us posted on all the "doings."

I can't begin to thank all of you on the planning committee for all the blood, sweat and tears (were there any?)
you put into the fantastic time we shared together on Saturday night.
Words are inadequate...just know that it was very much appreciated, and I hope to be able to help with any
future happenings.
Everything was wonderfully planned and executed.

It was such a fun time, full of joy to meet up with friends from 50 years ago...
I'm sorry that I didn't get to meet everyone.
And I know I'm forgiven for having to sometimes look at name tags before recognizing people!
I know there's more to say, and will do so when my senior mind remembers it all!

Thank you, Pearl for getting me safely to PCC, and Jane Mock & family for giving me a ride home.
I've been floating around since then!

God bless you all with good health, good friends, good family times and fun!

Hey, Sonny:

Sorry, no response sent.
So much to do with class reunion planning.
We had a great time at the class reunion this past Saturday 4/17/10 and bus tour by Milton Napuunoa
on Friday 4/16/10 and the golfing on Thurs 4/15/10.
I believe there was a small gathering on Sunday 4/18 for talk story at Kincaid's.
And a small mini reunion by some of our classmates to visit Sandy Ishimoto Yamada on 4/19/10 at the
Maunalani Nursing and Rehabilitation Center

Only plans for October are the luncheon at Main Street Sports Club on 10/10/10 at 11:30am (Price not set yet)
and slot tournament on 10/9/10 7pm ($20 deposit needed now for each person attending)
There will be a mini California reunion on 10/02/10 coordination being done by Jane Mock Pang.
If you're interested, email Jane ( let me know if you need her email address - Hal )

More information will be forthcoming. Watch for the bulletins or email me

It's been a busy, busy weekend for everyone... but a fun-filled eventful one... golf outings, bus tours,
mini-reunions, brunches, luncheons, craft fair, dinner banquets and who-knows-what-else.
I'm exhausted but with a smile on my face... don't know how the reunion committee members... with
all the planning, set-up, follow-up, etc... do it.

Some of the pictures taken at these events have been posted on the Pbase website... look for the
'Hon April 2010 Reunion' link on the http://www.pbase.com/halinhi/khs60lv02 page.

Let us hear your own story and experience of these events during this past week / weekend... I have
a few of my own I'll pass on in the next few email blog postings.

Representing Betty (Violet Chung-Hoon) Townsend (who couldn't make it) at the banquet was her

me her card with info on her blog where she posted the photos (note that I won't normally post a

Hi Hal and classmates,

We just had a fine day at Waikele Golf Club, enjoying the fine weather and most of all the companionship
of all the classmates who took the time off to play in our 50th class reunion golf tournament.
We all thanked Ron Higa for going all out to set up this event.
We had 24 participants and I'm sure everyone there enjoyed themselves.
Also a special thank you went out to our classmates who generously donated prizes to be awarded to any
participant that qualified in a blind drawing contest.
A great big THANK YOU to Nelson Masamune, Gary Tsukamoto and Carl Yasuda.
Also Carl was the official photographer taking both candid and group pictures.
We also had couple classmates who came all the way from the mainland to join us.
They were Seda and her husband Ron and Karen Morisawa.
Of course had to mention Richard Shintaku, he ran the skins game.
The winners all went home with some extra cash in their pockets.
Of course we had to have a overall winner, and guess what classmates, it wasn't one of us.
It turned out to be a guess who also won our other tournament..
Sorry, Karen, I had to put this message in because it is your sister who did it again.
You know, Gary and I had the pleasure of playing with you and your sister Joann.
So we decided if you invite her again, she has to play from the men's tees.
Nah, only joking.
But you other golfer beware of this woman, she can play this game!
I know every golfer who attended this event is looking forward to the one that is going to be held in Las Vegas.
I know this tournament is going to be even bigger and more lucrative..
So for all who will going to Vegas have your 'A' game ready, if not just bring along your game with a lot of bells
and whistles..
You know " RINGERS" and a bag of "SAND"..
Enough said, see you all at Pearl Country Club..

Today is the golfing classmates' big day... most of them already waking up, as I write this, to start working out

Tomorrow is the 'round-the-island' bus tour day... found out that at least a handful or more of expatriates will
be on board... maybe nearly a total of 40 classmates-guests... should be a blast.

I'm sure that you will be in top shape in no time and what great luck and timing to find the old KHS annuals.
Also happy belated birthday coincidentally, mine was on Monday.
Keep strong and see you on Sat.
Manny, the surfboard intrigues me, can't wait to see your work of art.

Harold, Good idea for anyone who wants to continue partying after 10pm, most places close at 11pm, any suggestions.
There aren't many places open beyond 11pm.
The only bar/lounge that I can think of in the area is Chez Monique (4am) next to Tony Roma's or Anna Miller's (coffee etc).
Zippy's on Kam Hwy. & Vinyard are 24hours restaurants, McDonald's Keeaumoku closes at 1am.
Big City Diner till 12am, Kincaids at 12am, Side St. Inn closes at 2am, Wailana in Waikiki is good 24hours & Mai Tai Bar
above Ala Moana SC to 1am to name a few and it probably depends what the different bedtimes are for some.
The Zippy's on Vineyard is great for crowds to sit and have coffee, snacks etc as well as Wailana and Side St. Inn.
Perhaps Zippy's on Vineyard is conveniently centralized for most and nicely "laid back for us golden seniors, shall we opt
for Vineyard's Zippys for now.
Easy to get to going Hawaii Kai direction on freeway take Vineyard cutoff stay on Vineyard until you reach Zippys on the
right at Maunakea St. before Nuuanu Avenue.Or Zippy's on Kam Hwy or Anna Millers.
How about it.
Roger, you are a perfect rep for us at the Mckinley session, keep us posted about seeing long lost old friends. Gerri

Hal - I visited Diamond Head cemetary yesterday.
After paying respects to my family members, I found the sites for Wayne Okada and Penny Toguchi Tanaka.
Wayne's grave was handsomely kept with flowers and a uncapped bottle of Heineken, plus a flower "vase"
made from a cabernet sauvignon bottle.
Thus, I would assume, he's resting contentedly.
Penny's was nicely decorated with sprays of fresh (Easter?) flowers.
Her neighbors are Tanakas and Toguchis, so I'm sure she's also content.
I surely miss the two, and was very happy and grateful to have said my farewells in person.
Thanks for the help you gave me.

supposed to wind things up around 10PM... just wondering, since there will be some open time for a
few of the classmates before the pumpkin hour... coffee ? cocktails ? " just chew the fat in the cars at
some parking lot like the old days 50 years ago " ? : )

Brenda, I hope you'll be OK by Saturday to be at the banquet... wouldn't be the same without you
after all your postings here... great story on the yearbooks and the b'day cheer... both from the
whodda thunk category.

Disappointed you won't be on the bus tour, Manny... was looking forward to you and Rosalind reenacting
your first ever meeting on a bus.

There you go Roger, you can represent Kaimuki and Jane can represent Mckinley... solved... next.

Harold, etal,, any type of the Surfers music will do, appreciate any of their music.
Wow, mahalo Chesta, you are fantastic.
Tell us more.
On Chesta's friend's email, I do recognize some of my friends.
What funnnnnnnnnn, Roosevelt was also a great school and so fantastic on their participation,
wonder how long it took to gather everyone and I am sure that their attendance will only get larger
as the word gets out.
Besides our special KHS 60 evening reunions, at our age, suggest that we also have more mini gatherings
yearly at different venues for coffee, lunch or dinner when any of our classmates since we enjoy
"just chatting with each other" so much.
Kincaid's is always good, however, it could be Zippy's McDonalds, Side St. Inn or even something on the
Mainland or elsewhere in the world as well as island community events or tours etal, an intimate small
group or large group, no matter, the importance is to get together for simply "good fun time".
Also we know that there are talented classmates who can enlighten us on exhibits, interesting subjects etc.
Give the call to action fellow 60's Bulldogs to keep our special group going to keep in touch.

Although I still can't speak with any volume or range, I have been reading and appreciating all the
excitement of this upcoming reunion.
Manny, I am not ignoring your calls,....it's just that I can't converse very well yet, especially over the phone
(no volume and no range) and when a Portuguese girl can't speak, ....well, that's tragic. ;-) and shocking.

Thanks Gerri for your kind wishes and offer.
I am moving today!!
I have help, thanks, but still must take it easy.
You have got to get the title Miss Congeniality or something, always doing good.

Couple of happy news bits.
My younger son David is very, very lucky at thrift and antique stores.
He just has a knack at finding treasures.
He and my older son Barclay, who came in from L.A. to make sure mom was alive and well,
took me antique shopping the other day, and can you believe that David found 1959 and 1960 Kaimuki
HS yearbooks!?
My mom had thrown them out, and it's been such a sad thing for me.
Right before the reunion, I get two of them back!
How's that?!
And one of them is even signed by me for an underclassman.
As if that wasn't enough, they took me to dinner for my BD Friday night at Tokoname's here in Kailua,
and in walk a group called "Soulutions" who don't know any oldies, but learned "Earth Angel"
just for the occasion and sang it to me.
I cried, of course.
The restaurant patrols clapped and cheered, loving it.

Here is a link I offer with a big smile and huge gratitude:

Aloha everone, manny here.
Sorry that I have'nt been in contact with you all, was very busy the last three weeks with Tsunami Education
during the month of April and Merry Monarch.
Let Brenda know, I will bring the Hawaiian war Weapon for display on Sat, along with some others.
Must call Pearl, she tried to contact me last week.
Hope she is not sitting next to her phone for the last week waiting for my call.
Sorry I can't be on the bus tour, the last time I was on a bus, I met my wife.
Can't let that happen again.
Hope to see all of you at the reunion.
Gerri, talking about surfer songs, I will be making a old Hawaiian surf board from a redwood slab that was given
to my foundation.
It will be 14' long and made at Moanalua Gardens sometime this summer

Chester Otani received the email below from a friend, a RHS '60 grad... thought it'd be interesting to see what the
other class of 1960 schools are doing for their 50th... and some of you may even recognize some of the names...
terrific that they had a luncheon with some of their former teachers... do we know if our teachers are still alive,
much less where they are and how to contact them if we wanted to... especially note the RHS grad's reference
to the "Combined Reunion Celebration"... something to ponder.

Some reminders I've been asked to pass along after dropping in on last night's committee meeting :

The 4/16 bus tour starts promptly at 8AM, all are requested to arrive and be ready to leave by then...
the earlier your arrival the better... meet at Ala Moana park, on the Diamond Head side of Magic
Island parking lot next to the water's edge... there'll be a grey bus which should have an identifying
sign on it, probably KHS 1960 or something similar... OK to bring small cooler and snack, no alcohol...
tour should be back at Ala Moana by 5:00 - 5:30 PM.

Those who have purchased cookbooks can pick them up at the 4/17 banquet... those not in attendance
will have the cookbooks sent out with the additional cost for mailing... additional cookbook purchase
orders can be accepted for a likely second printing later.

Assistance with setting-up is appreciated if arriving before 5:00PM... earliest arrival time allowed for
setting-up is 3:30PM... your hard-working reunion committe will be there by then.

Banquet and registration starts promptly at 5:00PM... cocktail/grab-bag mixer until dinner hour

Do you know if we can rent or borrow one from someone?

Paul/Frances, we’ll probably set up around an hour prior to the banquet.

Also, Pearl Country doesn’t have any easel to display the painting, so we setup one table next to a wall and

Hal, today the Cherry Blossoms are at peak bloom.
The weather is perfect and walking under the trees is like being in clouds of pink and white.
Since your visit was at this time, the Cherry Blossoms remind me of having soft shelled crab lunch with you,
Fran, and Terri.

Hank and I plan to have a picnic lunch this Saturday with friends.
We’ll buy sushi.

June: I know you gave me all this stuff for Christmas so that I could make my own sushi.
I love them but my fall slowed me down and I have not had time to practice making them.
I am looking forward (I think) to making my own sushi this coming year.

But for this year, we will wrap the bought sushi in my batchan’s purple furoshiki, put down tatami mats in
the park next to the Potomac River and enjoy.
I brought the furoshiki and tatami mats with me from Hawaii.
They are still in good shape because we use them only once a year at this time every year.
Then we clean them, hang the furoshiki to dry in my basement and hang the tatami mats to dry in the sun,
and store them for next year.

On Sunday, we will have a few friends over for Easter supper.
I plan to serve deviled eggs, Easter ham, baked sweet potatoes, vegetables that we can only get in the spring
(fiddle head ferns with crab-stuffed morels, a fresh wild sorrel and new radish salad, stir fried young leeks
with bacon bits), and cupcakes for dessert.

On Monday is the White House Easter Egg Roll.
The following provides information on this event.
http://www.packagingdigest.com/article/455274-White_House_sustains_commitment_to_eco_friendly_Easter_Egg_Roll.php
It is a lot of fun for the children.
We also are given a wooden easter egg that is signed by the president and the first lady.
The Obama eggs look just like the ones pictured at the website.

HAPPY EASTER TO ALL OF YOU.

Hello Elsie,

The medallions are priced by the committee and will not change unless they decide otherwise, and can
be bought/picked up at the reunion.
It is the bezel that some of gals have expressed interest in and I'm trying to help out with and does not
involve the committee.
The guys apparently aren't big on wearing jewelry around their neck but they have ordered many of the
medallions and all of the orders for bezels are from the gals.
I think you are right about the sales during the night of the reunion and I expect the sales of the medallion
will more than break even for the committee.

The committee (most members) will be at PCC by 3:30 pm for decorating and anything else.
This is the earliest we are allowed in but some of us will try to get in earlier or at least be there earlier.
I don't know about table cloths for the craft tables but will check with Karen or Muriel at our Tuesday meeting
and get back to you.
I will get with Hal on your reminder or notice for cash or checks for craft items.
Hope I have covered all of your questions so far.
Thanks for you order.
We are almost there.

Mahalo,
Carl

Subject: Reunion Medallion

Hi, Carl….first, let me thank you for sending “Friday at the Pentagon”.
I will certainly share that one with friends and family.

Secondly, I would like to order a medallion (if not too late).
I think a lot of sales will be made nite of the reunion, but I didn’t know that presale orders would make for a better price for
these medallions.
I think the girls in our bunch would do the same if they knew and are willing to help.

Carl, how early can we be there to set up tables for the craft fair?
And, will the tablecloths be provided for the craft tables?

Should I contact Hal to post reminder that we (Seda and I) are not set up to accept credit cards, so bring the “kala” or checks.
Thanks always, Elsie

Hal,

Please let whoever needs to know, that I have a vintage kimono and undergarment to donate to the silent auction.
The kimono is red.
I couldn’t find the obi.
A bamboo pole (the kind that is used in rolling up a new rug) would do nicely to display it.
I can’t easily bring the pole so I hope the committee can borrow one.
Whatever you get for it is donated to the Class of 60 fund.

No mark-ups... that's very generous of you Carl... I'm sure it's costing you not only in time but with incidentals.
Between you and Jean and some of the others the classmates can be grateful for the opportunity to obtain such great
memorabilia of our reunion at really good value.

Subject: Bezel and Chain

All,

With a few more orders, I can get a price of $27 each for the gold filled rope bezel as shown on Hal's catalog.
A matching 20" 3mm rope chain is available for about $6.
If interested, please email me and try to get others interested also.

I know it can be difficult from just looking at a picture, but a few of you have already seen it up close and can testify to the
attractiveness of the medallion in a rope bezel hanging on a chain.

For your information, I'm am not doing this to make any money.
For these items ( bezel, chain ), the "Class of 1960" funds will not be getting any percentage of the sales.
The actual cost plus shipping is all you pay for.
It's just that some or you have express an interest in these items and I have the time to do the research to find the best deal
I can in my search.

If you can find a better deal, please let me know and I will check it out.

If you need to discuss this further, Gerri Digmon can enlighten you with her opinion.

Mahalo,
Carl
