A Brief History of Plants

Starting with stromatolites (Precambrian to Recent) and then green and red algae from Cambrian to Silurian;
to the Late Silurian-Early Devonian clubmoss Baragwanathia and Early Devonian barinophytes, trimerophytes and the silicified Rhynie flora;
to Late Devonian seed plants and progymnosperm trees;
and on to Carboniferous clubmosses, ferns, seed ferns and cordaites.
The Mesophytic was rich in conifers and ferns. The Cenophytic is characterised by the abundance of angiosperms.
