Olivine from Earth and Space

Olivine occurs in beautiful crystals not just on Earth, but also in rocks from the Asteroid Belt and Mars. There are two end-member compositions, the magnesium end being forsterite (named after Jacob Forster, 1739-1806) and the iron end being fayalite. Examples of both are shown here, including many crystals of the gem variety peridot.
