The Ogooué recieves two major tributary from the south before reaching the coast, the Offoué and the Ngounié. Both of these tributaries have their sources in the highlands of the Massif du Chaillu, home of the Mitsogho, Sango, Vuvi and Ndzabi. Pygmies are also found in this area. They are called Baka, Bekwig or Bibaya by the Fang in the north; Bakola by the Bakota in the east and Akowa or Babougou by the Okandé and Batéké of Central Gabon.
