Village of Sangha
Dogon elders use fox divination for answering questions posed by villagers, such as the strength of the harvest or prospects of marriage. To represent the villagers' concerns the diviner draws a rectangular pattern on the ground supplemented with strategically placed twigs. Hopefully, a sand fox will walk through the drawing at night. The diviner will then interpret the fox tracks in the drawn pattern to provide answers to the villagers.
The sand fox is believed to be the earthly intermediary with the supreme Dogon god Ama.
