Blackburnian warbler
© Liz Stanley

Bloomington, MN

This was the second time I've seen this guy. Photographing warblers has to be the hardest bird photography I've ever tried. They literally do not stay still for a second. At first I tried to hand hold the 500 but that was impossible with how much this guy was moving around. I brought out the tripod and Wimberley head and that gave me a fighting chance. I'd say 99% of what I got were butt shots! Fortunately he stuck around long enough for me to get a couple of good looks. This is really the only time he came out in the open.

Hi there. I saw two of these guys come to the yard this spring (in Wisconsin). They hopped down to the ground bird bath and one bathed while the other one kept watch. First time I've ever seen this warbler. I had to look a few times, my first thought was that it was a Baltimore Oriole, since that's the only other winged visitor we have around here that has the bright orange. GREAT photo. Wish I could've grabbed my camera for a shot when they came in by us. Oh well, there's always next year!

Wonderful shot Liz! I am a photographer in Minnesota as well. I followed your link on mnbird Digest, Vol 31, Issue 11. You've got some great pictures here on pbase.

Absolutely gorgeous Liz. I'm very impressed - both by the stunning colors of the bird and the wonderful shot you got of it. Great stuff. Thank you for posting it.

Wow. That's a magazine cover or poster photo. You should be proud of this one!! It's great. It looks like he's looking for the next worm. Nice to see a bit of his back, too. I saw one near the ground last week and I had to think back on the last time I'd seen the back of a Blackburnian W. up close and personal. Maybe never, but it's as crisp in its black and white as his front is colorful.
Congrats on this lovely photo.
