A compilation of highlights from three trips to Mexico:
Two short trips to Puerto Vallarta and Mismaloya on the west coast of Mexico in January 2008 and January 2010. We birded mostly in the Sierra El Tuito, the coastal mountains south of the city in the state of Jalisco, with Alejandro Martinez of Birding in Mexico. Alejandro knows the area and its birds very well. We also took a boat excursion on the Bahia Banderas to las Islas Marietas and Punta Mita in the state of Nayarit on the first trip.
A week-long trip to the Yucatan peninsula in January 2011. In the state of Yucatan, we birded the Mayan ruins at Chichen Iza, the grounds of the adjacent Mayaland Hotel where we stayed, and the Rio Lagartos Biosphere Reserve. In the state of Quintana Roo, we visited the ruins at Coba, Tulum National Park, Vigia Chico Road in Felipe Carillo Puerto, and the Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marin Botanical Garden in Puerto Morelos.
