Ivory Gull, Grover Beach, November 2010

The second state record of Ivory Gull was found by Mike Stensvold feeding on a seal carcass in Grover Beach (San Luis Obispo County). This species normally inhabits the pack ice of the high arctic, where it is apparently in steep decline due to climate change and mercury contamination, and is on the endangered species list in Canada.
