I have great memories of Shea. I first visited in the summer of '65 and watched the Mets and Warren Spahn (!) lose to SF. Back then, Shea was so cool. Beautiful, clean and contemporary. The exterior with the squares and the traditional green outfield walls made Shea the envy of many fans around the country!
Memories count for a lot, but Citi Field is simply a much better ballpark - it's not even close. So many Shea seats were so far away from the players on the field. And by the time Shea closed, it was run down and outdated, not to mention smothered in garish blue paint. The ugliest park in the NL, in not all of baseball. Say what you want about the Wilpons (and there's a lot you can say), Citi Field is one of the nicest parks to watch a game in.
