Bravo! You were right, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy! You have a beautiful set of Galleries...what a pleasure viewing all the wonderful places you have visited. Thanks so much for sharing you're skill. Dawn
Mr. Schmickle, I found your Osprey photos through a Google search, hoping to find some to compare with some of what I thought were my own pretty good captures. But yours put mine into perspective. I also have a Canon, but mine is just a Rebel XTi. My zoom lens is the cheapest 75-300 that came with the package deal. I haven't been as fortunate as you, to find the nest, but I was pretty excited about being lucky enough to get some photos of an Osprey capturing some rather large goldfish in the pond near my house. Although my captures are nowhere close to the caliber or yours, I'm hoping that you might take the time to check out, and give me some feedback, on those that I posted on another website. www.woophy.com (If you do a member ID search for Lisa Buchanan that will take you to my Osprey photos.)Your photos are really breathtaking, Guy! Thanks for your time and attention.

Your wildlife photos are magnificent!
Hello Guy - Your photos of the San Juans are very nicely done! In fact, all of your galleries are very well composed and photographed. You know, there was not a cloud to be seen during my trip to the San Juans this year, but you put them to good use in your photos. Best regards - Gary
please let me know what i am looking at!
i live in a high rise apt, 8`th floor, on the west island of montreal
on a clear day , looking south westerly, i can see the adirondacks.
probably 60 or so miles away, as the crow flies.
the one big mountain stands out from the range. it has a peak, but looking at it from this distance, there aoppears to be a notch with a
smaller mound, right near the larger peak.
is this white face?
i can send you a panoramic picture i took recently., which clearly shows what i am attempting to describe! many thanks,
ian grant-whyte md

Since my first visit to Yellowstone in 1951 it has been my favorite vacation spot and I have been there almost every year since, but never in the winter. Thank you for the spectacular winter photos. I've always wondered what the Park looked like in the winter and how the animals survived.
your site is beautiful go to see my site at
Simply Awesome photos, Guy. You have an amazing talent. I have added your galleries to my usergroup so that others might share in your gift.
Guy Very nice Gallery. I'm from ND so like looking at your Mn. photos. Just got my 20D this June haven't been able to come up with anything like yours work but working on it. Is your Nighttime Reflections still available in small postcard size. Remember, I purchased the poster size in the same print. I have had so many compliments regarding your work.
Karen Lee Rosar
Is your image of Athabasca glacier licensable for textbook use? Please reply to me ASAP as I am on deadline. I would require a hi-res file, about 10 megs, give or take a few. Are you interested? I can submit your file for consideration. I love it.
could you pleae conatct me. Thanks in advance
Great shots of RMNP. I think we were there at the same time.
Here is a web site that I think you will find interesting.
It has a great group of people in the forum that exchange excellent information.
Check the forum section for topics and pics. They will love your shots if you register and post. (it's free)
The shots of Lake Superior are "well" superior, absolutely stunning. I have to find out how you are putting the frames around yur picts, it's a great addition---------ron s.
Clearly the greatest set of images I've seen so far. They view like paintings. Congrats on the fabulous work and thanks for sharing.
This is a really neat page!! I'll be sure to tell my friends!!
I just wanted to say that I like your website
I just wanted to let you know that your pictures are amazing. I just ended my 2 month stay at Many Glacier Hotel. I actually have been working there, not staying I guess. I had a great time. I just kinda missed being there, I'm back home in Wisconsin now, so I came online to look at some pictures, I havent developed all of mine yet. It was nice to see all of yours. Isnt Glacier Beautiful? Unlike anything Ive ever seen. Thanks.
Beautiful photo's of Minnesota. I grew up there, you have managed to capture the beauty of Minnesota.
Very nice photos, indeed. I am the developer of a brand new Minnesota travel Web site,
. I am writing because I'd like to use some of your photos to illustrate the beauty of Minnesota. The site is in the early stages but I envision a place where people can submit photos, experiences, and receive personalized travel reviews. I would of course have a link to your Web site where you could sell the images that I use, etc.
Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance for your time. I look forward to speaking with you soon.

nice homepage you've got!
keep up the good work
Hi Guy, Really enjoyed your fantastic galleries. You really have that photographer's eye. Some of the best shots I've seen on pbase. Kathy
great material on this site
Ran into your gallery when looking up von Briesen's. Derek and I sometimes shoot together when I spend the winter in Sedona. You have some nice red rock images and also several of your other galleries are very nice as will. If you get a chance, check out my galleries, and well as "da breeze's" Fred Parsons
every single one of your images are so striking. Briliant work!
John Ares Photographic
Good stuff. I love the Canadian followed by the orange jobs. Green herons are very skittish. Neat.
Beatiful pictures. So how does one go about purchasing prints from you?
Beautiful images, wonderful use of color. You can tell that a lot of thought went into each, well stated compositions.
I could not pick an image or gallery to comment in - they are all amazing. Thanks for sharing, you brightened a dull afternoon at the office for me.
Thanks for sharing, they say pictures are worthy a thousand words, and they were an excellent job.
I share your interest I love Arizona its just breathtaking.
Very nice photo gallery. Well done!!
Guy, I see that you are still traveling and taking beautiful pictures. We are taking the kids to Arizona at the end of October 2005 and I am going to show them the pictures that you have taken. Has National Geographic called yet? You are a great photographer and a great pub hopper in Scotland/Ireland. Use the Optional name and email for your reply. - J. Ritter
All of your images are excellent !!!You're on my favorites now!!
Enjoyed your Sonoran Desert Scenes Gallery. Your photography is wonderful!!
I recently spent about 4 hours at the Saguaro National Park while on a business trip. I did not have a sunny day (mostly overcast) as you did but I think I was able to capture some decent shots. I am interested in getting your feedback on my photos (if you have the time)as you clearly understand the southweset.
Guy, your gallery IS THE BEST I have ever seen in the net! The night time shots are just out of the world. The sharpness, colour and the contrast from the Nikkon gear - unbelievable!! Is that due to digital manipulation or the full credit goes to the Nikkon? And of course to you too for creating these master pieces!
I have been searching for an exquisite Mpls. photo. I found "Night Time Reflections" to be exquisite. I live in the neighborhood of the photo and would very much like to purchase a copy of this photo to display in the entry of my loft.
I am looking for a sizeable print, about 2 by 3 feet, or porportionatly appropriate.
Can you help me?
Really enjoyed your recents shots. Sorry I haven't had a chance to take a look. It sure beats actually working today. Your favorites were definitely that. St. Paul Cathedral and the Mpls skyline were incredible shots.
i loved your scotland/ireland pictures and would like to plan a trip there - can i ask you what tour company you used? you seemd happy with the tour - were the acommodations nice? the pictures were beautiful - thank you
Derek von Briesen
thanks for the big ups. sedona has certainly been well represented as of late. i've actually been getting some prints and tour inquiries so it doesn't hurt to make it up the list. i've been hovering around 800-1000 hits/day, occasionally moving toward 2k. today, i've already gotten 3k!? wow. thanks again for your support and keep me posted on your vacation schedule. i'm planning a trip to death valley & valley of fire sometime in jan/feb along with my continuing efforts to get the grand canyon with a full compliment of snow. maybe a quick shot over to white sands too sometime soon.
we would like to use your foto for a background for a dekoration in a shop. is it possible to get a bigger size (better quality, higher resolution)? please give me information as soon as possible to my e-mail-adress! thank you very much!
i don´t think that you are interestet in this hint and it´s not meant "knowing-it-all" but i have to get rid of it ;-) you set pics of wild animals on webshots.com (they are very great!) and there is a pic you named "Asian (Not So) Wild Horse"- i just wantet to say that this horse is called "Przewalski-Horse".
sorry that i wasted your time
an enthusiastic observer of your pics*
Derek von Briesen
people have great taste & that's why you're page 1 babee! btw: have you ever gotten lost in alex uchoa's lanscapes in brazil gallery? i would have to say the most amazing gallery i've ever seen on pbase. check it out if you haven't already.
thanks for the vote. yesterday was indeed incredible. gate was open at seven when i arrived. i had planned to shoot something else close by until their normal opening at 8am & was pleasantly surprised to see the inviting lot! tracking in 6" of fresh powder, with that incredible snow-deadened silence was quite literally a spiritual experience.
later on my way back (i had gone about two miles in; a longer trek than you might imagine, as so many tree branches were bent over into the trail), i came across a number of large format pros working the bottom & most colorful end of the canyon. one guy, who i quite regularly see there & chat with, turns out to be the foremost polar bear photographer in the the world. he does tours in antartica & the artic every year. nice guy . . . i only found out his prominence when another shooter pointed in out.
really, the online images don't do yesterday justice. so much fine detail in the snowy branches gets lost. the prints i've made up so far are just incredible. more snow on tap this week with periods of clearing so i'm really hoping to get a bit more light to play with.
hope you're not too cold in the frosty northland. i'll never forget seeing all the old barns & billboards on the interstate northbound to minneapolis all bent to the south from the perpetual northers! ooohhhh, cold my friend!!
keep getting those great shots of snowy, frozen waterfalls and beautiful wintery desolation. and when you need a dose of color & warmth, you know where to head. this spring, i'd really like to spend ten days in my camper around the escalante/grand staircase/paria river area. interested in coordinating something?
let me know,
Derek von Briesen
Guy . . .
#6 w/a bullet (old billboard music charts term!) on the popular galleries! great work. new gallery from yesterday, sedona in white. amazing day in west fork is all i can say!
Guy, your gallerys are beautiful!
Terrific colors and sharpnes, congrats!
Derek von Briesen
yea guy, weather's been comin' down as of late. tons of snow (earliest and best arizona snow bowl opening in years) and lots of water down here. was hoping for a colder storm and some real snow in the canyon (west fork!) but not to be. been exploring some higher elevation kaibob plateau lakes with vistas of the snow-capped san fransiscos above flagstaff in the background. look for a new gallery soon. found some killer locations and will be returning for sunrises, clouds, more snow!!! even shot some 30 sec exposures under the moonlight tonight. downloading the cf card as we speak. hope all's well for you. your favorites gallery just blows me away. such incredible work!!! (one slight critique, if you'll allow me? some of the blended exposures, while perfectly done technically, have so expanded the dynamic range as to look a little artificial to my eye. take it for what it't worth. a small quibble with an absolutely mind-blowing body of work!!)
Absolutely Beautiful Photos. Just wondering if you sell any of your prints? Interested in the High Falls Baptism River. Please contact by email Thanks
I really like your style. nice variety of images.
Très belle gallerie avec beaucoup de variété
En fantastisk samling, mycket vackert.
I am writing on behalf of an author who is shortly to publish a book on the countries of the European Union. We were impressed with your images of Ireland on PBase and would like to ask your permission to include one of them in the book if you were willing. Could you email me at the above address to let me know?
Thanks and best regards,
You've captured some wonderful images of some of my favorite places.
Derek von Briesen
just wanted to thank you for your generous comments on my recent work. coming from a man as talented as you, it's high praise indeed! you've been one of my favorite artists for quite some time now, and my frequent visits to your neighborhood always leave me inspired and anxious to go out and capture more of the magic myself. if you're ever in sedona . . .
I wanted to say that I ran across your site and galleries today and spent probably to much time on them at work. You have a wonderful eye and have captured some really beautiful shots. I'm also a fellow Minnesota native. If possible I would love to exchange emails and learn more about your photography, and what avenues you are persuing? Keep up the wonderful work, its very enjoyable to view!
Hi Guy, I really enjoyed your website. Beautiful photography by a very talented man. I was on the same trip with you in Scotland & Ireland. I am behind Gavin in the group photo.
Thanks! Time well spent visiting your galleries. I'll be back.
I did a little wedding photography with a Rollei 3.5G, but found it was pretty stressful.
very great pictures around here!
julie rehn bechtel
Excellent pics! That is my Aunt, Uncle, & Cuz, that went with you to Ireland. I loved seeing your trip on the web. I just bought a digital camera for our fishing trip to Canada, I did a bit of homework and got the sony 5.1 megapixel cybershot. So far it seems pretty user friendly. Tell Beth her cousin Julie says HI!!
Springtime in Scotland.. as aScotsman I write to say how well you have captured our country on camera.. you have a number of shots not normally taken.. well done keep up the good work.
Hi From Grand Rapids, MN
I don't remember if I've posted in the past, but, I have you as my 'favorite'!
Beautiful work! I'm doing my best with my Fuji S602zoom.
I've done some portraits and now weddings, but, I carry my camera almost daily
just in case something catches my eye.
Amazing Mirror Pictures! I love them all! Wow!!! Do you think the same can be taken with a digital camera? Just Beautiful!
I love this site good site mugu keep offffffffffffffffffffffff
Why haven't I heard from you?
Thanks for having a look at my Utah images. I followed your link page to your galleries. I really enjoyed you pictures. You did a much better job of holding the highlights in the Navajo canyon. Guess I have to go back. ;)
Derek von Briesen
thanks for the nice comment you left on my page. i come to your galleries often for inspiration. your images are simply spectacular. if you're ever in the neighborhood, let's shoot some pix?
Derek von Briesen
We are getting married this summer in front of the Spoon and Cherry and would like to use a picture of the site for our invites. Yours is perfect. Would you be willing to license?
Britt (and Michael)
I,ve been to banff lots and always enjoyed the sites. You have taken very beautiful photos of the park.
your scenery pics are all great
i love all of them!!
I enjoyed many of your photos. I grew up in Alberta and spent a lot of time in the Banff/Jasper area as well as Glacier National Park. You have a wonderful collection of photos. Thanks for sharing.
Your landscapes are incredible. Every picture makes me wish I could be there viewing it with you. You've only served to reinforce my need to head to Alberta. Wow! Thank you so much for sharing these images!
Thank you very much for your critique of my Zion gallery. I found your comments to be very useful and I appreciate you taking the time to help me out.
I actually prefer the underexposure as I felt that it made the colors a bit deeper. I even adjust the levels some to suit my taste. However, that's just my personal preference, and maybe I should consider lightening my photos up a bit in the future. I'll try that and see how I like them.
You're absolutely right about foreground interest. Sometimes I don't see anything that I think would look good. But a lot of the time I probably just forget to look. I think that when I'm surrounded by such beauty it's easy for me to lose sight of the fact that without forground interest or something for perspective the photograph isn't going to look nearly as good as what's currently before my eyes.
well done and thanks for sharing.
Hello, I enjoyed your photos.Thx for sharing. :)
Hi June. Thanks for your comment. The answer to your question is that all the shots in my Glacier/Waterton gallery, including Avalanche Lake, were taken with a Sony F707. Its a camera I no longer own as I've moved up to Nikon D100.
Hi Guy, these are beautiful! Can you please tell me what kind of camera you used to get the shot of "Avalanche Creek"?
Your work is wonderful. I have been to many of the places in your gallery. I also live in MN. I'm not sure where you are at, but I'd love to have lunch with you sometime and talk about your experiences.
I really enjoyed your galleries very much. Lovely composition and good technique along with a fine eye for lighting. I especially enjoyed the national parks since that is one of my favorite subject areas? I hope you will visit my gallery sometime -- I'm new to pbase and still trying to find out how to share my work more effectively.
wonderful images!!! What is you post processing workflow like? And are you using a polarizer or other filter with your 17-35mm landscapes??
fantastic is all to say
