I had the extreme pleasure of visiting the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in New Mexico just after Christmas, 2007 for four wondrous days. The weather, although a bit chilly, was otherwise spectacular for the entire trip. Winter storms passing by to the north kept spinning clouds over the area creating one beautiful sunrise/sunset after another. The refuge was teaming with bird activity as the current counts estimated 33000 snow geese, 43000 ducks, 7700 sandhill cranes among many other species. I've seen and heard a great deal of the extraordinary photographic opportunities that exist with the birds that overwinter here and I was anxious to see it all for myself. I was definitely not disappointed!
