Bushfires in North East Victoria. Started 6th. December 2006

Numerous fires were started in bushland by dry thunderstorms. Due to the worsening weather conditions, with higher temperatures and strong winds, and the inaccessability of the terrain the fires are expected to burn for months, with the possibility of spreading through to the coast in Gippsland. Some small communities and private property are now under threat, and have been advised to put their fire plans into action.

Hi Bea, I'm not sure where you are but I'm in Echuca and woke this morning to that same smoke too. Got a bit worried because I live on the edge of a State Forest. I guess all of Victoria is probably blanketed today and only makes this upcoming weekend all the more concerning for all of us. Keep safe, and remember - only take the irreplacables, nothing else matters.
