Although I do have a business, Portraits by Gretchen, I am in photography because I love to take pictures of people and I think people should be able to afford good portraits of their families. Really creative and personal portraits have become very expensive, so most people settle for the "canned" portrait in order to have one. I offer affordable, creative, and personal portraits.
During my sessions, I love to encourage the people I am photographing to get involved in the whole process. I want the model or models to feel comfortable and feel like they have an active part in producing the portrait. It becomes a fun and enjoyable event, versus a boring time spent with someone putting you in uncomfortable positions. :-)
God has given me a gift to catch the personality of people and the creativity to create something different. I am excited about the opportunity to use it to be a blessing to others who might not otherwise have the chance to get that special portrait.
Please enjoy your visit here and feel free to leave me a note if you like what you see or if you have some advise or suggestions about my work, I'd love to hear about it. I always am striving to grow and expand my abilities.
"A portrait is a likeness. They've been etched on cave walls, minted onto the sides of coins from every age since the Bronze Age, and sketched, painted, and photographed since the beginning of recoreded history. Naturally, styles and fashions haved changed over time, but the portrait endures as a form of art, communication, and keepsake. We like to rememeber those we love, admire those we find beautiful, commemorate those we find valuable. The photographic portrait may well be one of the more important social tools we have." - Catharine Jamieson
“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.” Aaron Siskind
