When I was a little boy I went into my Grandmother's closet and found a box with these interesting scrap books and masonic diplomas.
I asked my grandmother what they were and she told me that they belonged to my Grandfather's Father.
My Grandparents were born in Fraserburgh Scotland and came to Canada around 1911 or so .
It seems that my Great Grandfather was a mason and he had a shop in Fraserburgh.
There are many newspaper clippings about the lodges in Fraserburgh as well as many diplomas that my Great Grandfather received.
In his obituary it says that Mr William Donald retired ironmonger Fraserburgh died at 17 Milton Road Herne Hill London aged seventy one years.
Mr Donald was a enthusiastic Freemason and also took a keen interest in the friendly society movement.
He held all the principal offices in Lodge Solomon (No197)and Lodge Fraserburgh (No1055),of which he was a founder.
He was also a founder and No 1 of the Ivy Leaf Lodge of Free Gardners, and a founder of Venus Chapter O.E.S.,of which he was the first patron.
He held over thirty degrees in Freemasonry and was a deacon in the South Church.
I have always been interested in the scrap books and I have decided to share them with you.
Please see my other album of scrapbook clippings with things to do with Fraserburgh and my Great Uncle who was a war hero.
