Interesting Photo What is in her hand?

This interesting photo was sent to me .
Thank you so much for sending me this most interesting photo!
I wish I could figure out what the woman is holding in her hand.
I really like the head stone with its primitive form.

After looking at many different lady friendly gardening tools, the configuration and what was possibly used in this particular photo event was rather time consuming research. First, the handle is too long for a childs pram or cart. If such were obscured by the tree there would be more physical evidence of such on the left side of the tree. Since the grave does not look that old a possibiliy was a lady friendly garden cultivator and there were even small push mowers in 1906. BUT, the headstone is evidence that these poor people may not have been able to afford updated gardening tools much less a nice headstone. Possibility, due to poverty they were allowed to dig the grave, place the headstone and that would explain grave appearance of being rather new since grass length around grave is a bit weedly looking. Thus, they may have used of a pull cart to bring in the headstone and child casket or wood coffin, if they did the burial themselves. Or just to pull the headstone to the grave for placement. The two living children in the photo do not appear to be in need of a stroller. Of all the cultivators or push mowers from 1900s, their era, none had the configuration of the handle but some flat pull carts did. Still a speculation of accuracy to identify item.

The woman is holding the handle to a wagon or cart or baby pram that is hidden behind the tree (and out of the picture). The "V" shaped thing (on the handle, close to the tree) is to keep the handle from plopping all the way to the ground when you let go, so you don't have to bend all the way to the ground and pick it up. In other words, it acts like a stand of sorts.

I beleive the object the woman is holding is a weed whacker used in the old days for cutting and trimming grass & weeds. These were the days before the gas powered weed eater. Tony
