Hi Gary, we went to the Block the other night for dinner. I was a little paranoid after your comments, so I didn't take any pics, but just casually put my P&S camera on the table at dinner.
- what a fun place!
One day this gallery will be classic. You know how the old pictures from the 50's look now after 50 years? Hold on to these shots...
By the way, I was chased out of this place in a mall...not allowed to shoot!
- I've found it best to shoot first and get kicked out later...after the shot is in the camera!
you have a got a great eye. Im from orange county and would go there often, your view puts a new spin on it!
btw - I've often been hassled while taking pictures on public sidewalks, and also from malls and lobbies (paranoia reigns). I even got escorted out from one buliding lobby - and I was photographing an American flag that was hanging within. Ironic, I think. These are challenging times for street photography - maybe we'll all be stuck inside studios soon.
The good life - the sun-drenched version. :)
I miss this place. I usually go here every week when I was in California. BTW, Great shots.
It was pretty upsetting to say the least Paul. I am really feeling led to put together some sort of site informing photographers, (at least in California) of their rights. Maybe find all the laws that would pertain to any invasion of privacy and/or shooting in a public place.
I've been there taking pictures many times! It's fun to see the same places I've gone, but through someone Else's eyes! Oh yeah, and don't you hate it when people keep you from taking pictures of things that don't even matter? I was taking an escalator picture in a mall, with NO ONE on the escalator and was told I'm not allowed to photograph anything in the mall. I insisted on talking to the guy's supervisor, which didn't help since he told me the same thing. STUPID rules!
