Saw-Whet Owl

Amherst Island, Ontario.

Awwwww.......look at that face! Just too darn cute. Definitely one of my favourite owls. This little guy was very popular, as well over 40 visitors went to see it while I was there. Some commented that he didn't look all that big but I have seen even smaller Saw-Whets like this one photographed last year in the west end of Ottawa. http://www.pbase.com/golfpic/image/57426143

Thanks Lynn. Yes, they are very tolerant of people. Some have never seen this species of owl before so it was a first for some. I especially got a kick pointing it out to a group of very young birders as I heard they had been disappointed in not finding one on a previous trip.

I, too, love these little guys. They are so cute and they stay put so are easy to photgraph. We get them from October through February before they move on! This is a great shot! Lynne
