Originally from Montreal, Quebec, she is studying Marine Biology at a university in Nova Scotia and spent the Summer of 2004 studying whales onboard a whale watch tour boat. The responsiblity of selecting a camera for the Biology department at the university also fell onto her shoulder and she selected the Canon 10D along with a fast Canon prime lens, the 200 2.8L. When I asked why she didn't choose a more versatile zoom lens she replied that 200mm is all that was needed and a zoom would just degrade the image quality. Whales are identified by the markings on their flukes (or tails) and no two whales have the exact same markings.
