The snapper is the largest freshwater turtle found in Canada. They are also scavengers, eating dead fish and drowned mammals.
They can have vicious dispositions and readily snap at nearby objects when on land, however, when encountered in the water, they usually slip quietly away from any disturbance.
The Common Snapping Turtle is generally nocturnal.
