The Great Gray Owl has been referred to as the great gray ghost of the north. The overcast skies and slight mist in the air certainly lend credence to its name from a visual perspective anyway. The Great Gray Owl also flies on silent wings and can blend into the surroundings making it difficult to pick out especially in the vasr forests of the north.
There have been a number of Great Gray Owl sightings in both Quebec and eastern Ontario. In Ontario Great Grays have been reported in Lanark county and the Vankleek Hill area.
